The most important thing right now in bitcoin is to make it easier to run a bitcoin core multisig on a offline linux laptop. That's it.
The rest is completely irrelavant

Unchained is effectively custodial.
They could easily collude with one of the 2 hardware wallets that you used . The maker could insert a bug in their hww software and collude with a high ranked employee of unchained to rug their clients.
It's inevitable this will happen in the next couple of decades

2026-10-09 22:07:05 UTC

The ledger incident is the nail in the coffin for hardware wallets.
People are all going fully custodial.
In hindsight, this was always going to happen

2026-08-03 02:06:18 UTC

Don't trust, verify. The bitcoin mantra.
I was not able to verify coldcard. Almost lost all my life savings.
I am unable to verify ledger, bitkey, unchained, casa, all other bitcoin services. Even seedsigner, yeti, Liana.
Thus, I can't trust because I can't verify.
This is also true for 99% of Nostr and 99.9999999999% of the general population.
Hence 99% of nostr and 99.9999999% of the general population cannot self custody.
Bitcoin self custody is officially dead.
Bitcoin decentralisation is dead
Is Bitcoin as a truly decentralised uncontrollable asset dead ?

I did my cold card multi sig in 2020.

2026-08-02 17:06:59 UTC

Yes let's compare. It's not about the amount of coins. People that held their coins with custodians did not have 100% of their wealth on bitcoin. On average they probably had 10% or less.
Cold card users probably had 75% + of their savings on that card.
The devastation is exponentially worst.
Also custodians such has coinbase is much much safer in Hindsight. And they have insurance.
