I think race-realists tend to heavily discount the effect of religion and ethnicity. This is most easily explained by the fact that most of them aren't _completely_ WEIRD (i.e. Roman Catholic).
They have lots of smaller, weaker institutions and laws, but not The Institution and The Law.
That's why "Cradle Catholic" is a term, but "Cradle Methodist" isn't.

Not thinking Elon is brilliant just means you aren't very smart. I don't have to like something someone else is doing with their intelligence, in order to measure it. He's solidly within my "smart enough to be attractive to me" range (yes, I am my own IQ test), which puts him at least 140.
(Normally, that should be 110, as the attractiveness range is 20-points in either direction, with a curve peaking above her own, but I always shift right at least 10 because I'm good-looking enough to get away with it and women are thin on the ground up there. 😂)

...that #cordn and #outbox bring Nostr closest to a P2P protocol so far. They both relegate relays to hops, rather than hubs.

2026-09-14 08:28:16 UTC

What frustrates me most about Nostr is how much some **developers just don't care about what kinds content creators actually publish**.
Our stuff drops off the timelines, and people's threads and feeds get thinner and thinner, but the devs don't respond by including the new kinds because they're only here to kind-1-shout-out at their fan club once per day or week or month, and then they go back to talking to their agents and collecting their monies.
Those devs aren't scrolling the feed or responding in threads, my frens. They don't notice that our stuff disappears and -- what is more -- they don't give a damn.

It's beautiful, from up here. So quiet and peaceful, from thousands of miles above. Gazing out my window.
✈️ Imwald Android airplane mode engaged.
I have used the flight to finally check and respond to everything my client loaded into the internal database, while I was in WiFi. (Outside of WiFi I use the low data mode, rather than full relays.) It is both an abundance of interaction, as well as an interaction that eventually ends. At some point, the locally-stored data has an end.
Thousands of notes. It moves quickly by. Every item in my feed, every embedded or quoted note, and entire threads. I can filter "To Me" or "From Follows". Feels so dynamic, but I am only publishing to my local relays and my cache database.
When I turn off airplane mode, after landing, it will immediately send everything I published to the cache DB, to the requested relays. And it will pull in newer events from all relays, including my local aggregator, Tor and I2P relays. And then I can put it back into low-data mode.
It is a bit counterintuitive, but this asynchronous design might be how we finally make alternative channels smooth to interact with. It might be how we consume hardly any mobile Internet or battery life, but stay widely-distributed and highly performant.
**Queue all the things.**

Rail privatisation was half-ass here, too. They went public, but the government owns all of the shares. 😆
The telecoms privatisation was for real, but done in the most-retarded way possible. And let's not even talk about the obvious grift that was the highway toll system. Or why Angie suddenly needed to invite the entire world to move here and get comfy, as if Germany were a global refugee camp run by the mafia.
And then they kept bailing out corporations during every crisis, and the corps did the only sensible thing and spent the money buying back their own shares and issuing bonuses because of the fantastically high share prices.
Oh, we know where the money went and who has it...

2026-06-28 15:25:04 UTC

That depends.
The German government spending more now is the result of them starving public services and defense for decades so that trains began derailing, bridges collapsing, school toilets molding, internet speeds never advanced beyond a crawl, and the soldiers were being trained to go to the front line and dance the silly dance, to see if the other side will fall dead of laughter.
They were thrifty, but they were also eating the seed corn and selling off the public goods. And wealth inequality increased over the same time. Where was that wealth taken from, why, where did it go, and how do we now claw it back?

2026-06-15 07:59:27 UTC

Things that are slowly ending:
* manually sorting trash or airing out buildings
* high-speed roads and railroads (anything over 200 km/h)
* cooking and baking equipment that can't go into the dishwasher
* clothes that need to be ironed
* massive public works or buildings, such as long-span bridges, reclaimed islands, and skyscrapers
* alarms run solely on simple batteries
* bathtubs
* physical libraries, except a few that harbor museum-grade pieces
* massive federal or supranational governments
* copyright protections
* continental-scale wars of invasion
* publicly financed retirements
* large differences in wages, between branches or jobs
* households with children and two parents, where both parents work full-time
* long university educations, for anything other than a minority of academic supertalents
* young people all rushing off to live in the Big City
* centralized social media and news sources
* state currency monopolies

You can't eat Bitcoin.
You can't use it to fuel your car, airplane, truck, tractor, or to run your generator, fertilize your fields, heat your house, power your chemical refinement or desalinization plant, or transform it into plastics.
Bitcoin is an energy store, but you can only release that energy if you can trade your Bitcoin for energy. The market needs to offer the energy in trade. There needs to be market alignment.
A picture of a pipe is not a pipe.
A store of energy is not energy.
Money you can trade for food is not food.
This coming wave of consumer price inflation is an effect of true market scarcity of goods caused by global logistics interruption, analog to the COVID era. They will try to print money, to alleviate the pain of the missing goods, but that will just make the remaining goods more expensive (which Bitcoin *can* protect you against; that is its purpose).
Stack your sats, but also: plan accordingly and understand scarcity.

Poor people don't read books. That is one major reason why they stay poor.
I have a house full of paper books, but you really would need a mansion with a large library, to fit in many more. Most are rotting away in the basement or in boxes in the closet. I do the middle-class thing and go to the library, but they are also space-limited, so some books I like borrowing eventually get taken out of the shelves.
E-books are much better, as you can have as many as you have digital storage space, but I didn't want anyone to change them from underneath me, so I went online and built software that keeps books on relays and allows every part of them to be cryptographically signed and the changes tracked. Which solves that problem.
And then, anyone with a cell phone can have access to any book I also have access to, since the relay is public. This was better, then going offline, with my paper edition of Frankenstein, and sneering at the commoners who can't afford to buy 500000 paper books.

2026-01-12 14:01:56 UTC

The things that are _good_ for the poor and downtrodden tend to be _even better_ for the powerful and well-connected, so it's not really possible to help the former without helping the latter even more.
Most people would probably just prefer to keep everyone down, rather than have to suffer the rich getting richer. This is, after all, the appeal of socialism. But it is also untenable, to stretch this financial inequality out further and further. At some point, the societal bands break and the economy collapses.
Hard money doesn't end this effect. It might actually compound it, as only the rich can then get credit to make investments, and you need a certain amount of wealth to purchase things that allow you to be more financially efficient.
Even Bitcoin is like this. Some people reject it because buying it invariably makes the larger hodlers richer. You gain purchasing power, but the people who have more Bitcoin take a cut off your gains, in addition to receiving the same gain.
The poor will always be with you.

The idea that any craziness can be justified by polling the majority is crazy. The majority is sometimes crazy. A pure democracy is a menace. Majority rule, unfettered by the rule of law and separation of powers, is tyranny.
You know who has been voted into office?
Hitler, Stalin, The Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Kim Jong Il, Mao Zedung, Vladamir Putin, Nicolás Maduro
No, being voted into office does not make your government legitimate. Sometimes, it just means you rigged the vote. Sometimes, it just means that most of your country's voters are literally retarded.
One of the great ironies of democracy is that it doesn't prevent the voters from voting in someone who ends democracy. There are some votes cast, that are the final votes cast.

Why do you still need that person, then?
Because, then... you don't. You don't need a single person, of any type, anywhere.
