Reading about "Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment", a coalition backed by major media corporations to combat media piracy, with they claim on their website, they already took down more than 2500 websites.
On their site, they also listed legal streaming services. Makes me wonder, if their purpose to combat the piracy, why they didn't fix the problem of why piracy of video contents is still exist? With backed by numbers of major media corpos, I think its not possible to them to create a unified streaming services like pay once access all. Not need to subscribe each streaming services one by one separately.
I think some peoples are tired with this. Let say, their favorite actor are starred on Netflix series, tomorrow starred on Disney+ series, next day starred on Amazon Prime series, makes them draining the wallet to subscribe 3 different services just to follow its favorite actor.
See music streaming, because of unified music streaming service like Spotify & Apple Music, the music piracy is reduced significantly in last decade. Also in the gaming, because of unified gaming stores like Steam & Epic Games, the gaming piracy is also reduced significantly in last decade too.
Why its so hard for video content streaming service? Rights? Geographical reasons? Imagine if most of music & game also like this. You can't listen legally Brat album on Spotify and you can't buy legally Grand Theft Auto game on Steam if you're in Indonesia, its simply the publisher limit it due to geographical reasons.
The existence of "Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment" its simply to fed the corpos ego of profit rather than to fix the piracy problem. As always, Gabe is always right: "piracy is always a service problem".

This criticism is only weighed my views about Eugene intentions to use his platform for riding his political opinions. Wrapstodon features feels rushed, didn't have enough time to accept & fix the flaw, and now he putting a political joke inside it.
Its makes me feels there are no difference between him & Elon then. Yes, Elon is also using his platform for riding his political opinions, but side with Republican party.
If siding with Republican party can be considered bad, doesn't mean siding with Democratic party is also good tho.
Why I am saying this? because I believe both parties always comes with advantages & disadvantages, and different peoples had different views on it. And also, Im not really much care about US politics because as simple as Im not US citizens.
Thats why I said, Eugene kinda like he still can't be positioned himself about his personal opinions and his projects that involves peoples other than him.
As I said before, I like the concept of ActivityPub along with the platforms of it. Not the hypocrites founder/developer that they feels they're the best from Twitter/Elon by doing same like Elon but opposites.

As much as Im pro with the piracy over entertainment contents that produced by multi billion corporates (for archival & punishing corporate over business practice purposes), I believe, there should be a limit.
Knowledge shouldn't be pirated. Teacher, lecturer, & professor are put their great effort to change this world by their best knowledge, and you, sit infront of laptop, pirating their knowledge? Without giving some of thanks to them?
In ancient times, peoples need to travelling a great distance by their foot just to catch the knowledge. Modern days, you still need pay some of bucks to get yourself educated. You pay to make the knowledge more valuable again, not wasting it.
Same like indie game devs & artists that they're not tied with corporate capitalism. They're trying their best to entertain you without being greedy, and you still sit on there without giving them some bucks to support them financially?
