And much like the a bare bones Plymouth Voyager, 190s are rare now, few people opted for something so basic and most were disposed of. Plenty of 5300s out there, like the Dodge Caravan Sport, driven hard for many years, then parked behind a shed, battery still in it, leaking over everything.

Replaced a loud squealing fan in the Mercedes wagon this morning. Now getting ready to continue Audi repairs. Last time I worked on the Audi a bunch of things broke, hoping that doesn’t happen today 🤞. The joy of 20 year-old German cars 🙃

AppleTalk router crashed and cut the Mac Plus off from the internet. Got the router back online, but it wouldn’t pass traffic. Just as I was about to post about it and take a break, it started working. #MARCHintosh

The Cracked Mac Plus survived the bot onslaught and is still, slowly, serving its web site. It saw about 30 visitors since last night. Visit at http://crackedmac.ddns.net:8080 or https://crackedmac.ddns.net

Almost a full week since my fever broke and I'm still recovering from the flu. Fatigue, congestion, and breathing issues persist, although they are slowly (very slowly) improving. This is as bad as the summer flu of 2022, which was the worst I'd experienced in a decade. Happy I'm on the mend, this was rough.

not the worst problem to have. I think I have a vintage Toshiba or two in my storage room, some of them were nice machines, for being PCs.

my sub gets warm, but nothing extreme. I suspect the capacitor failure is age related, plus having been produced in 2006, it may be suffering from the capacitor plague of the mid 00s.
The speakers in my HT are ancient, but holding up well. 80s era DCM Timewindow 3s up front and 70s/80s Ohm bookshelf in the rear. When I bought the sub I also bought a set of Paradigm ADP-470v3, use them for the side surrounds. Music sounds really good and movies with really good surround mixing are fantastic on it.

Quick recap of my home theater subwoofer before work this morning. Picked up this circa 2006 Paradigm UltraCube 10 off neighbors last year, working, but these are prone to electrolytic capacitor failure and it was showing symptoms. With fresh caps it is back up and running in the home theater.

Neighbor gave me this beautiful GE S-132 radio that he acquired from a neighbor in the 1970s. Spent a couple hours deep cleaning it, and still have some paint to remove, but it’s in fantastic original condition.

Call for help!
Last year I helped start a non-profit, https://springfield.community, which recently gained 501c3 status. An amendment will be voted on by the Massachusetts State House this week that will allocate $10,000 of state funding for our non-profit to help us continue our work. Any calls or emails to Massachusetts State Representatives will help us make this a reality! Use the following link to find your legislators (and feel free to call more than just your local one): https://malegislature.gov/Search/FindMyLegislator
You don’t need to be a Massachusetts or even a US resident to voice your support this amendment.

While my lab has been semi-functional for months, it's constantly evolving as I continue to unpack boxes. Corners that were stacks of boxes and computers are becoming organized, shelves continue to go up and items organized. It feels good 😁

The other four of six radios purchased, all chairsides. Two Zeniths, a shutter dial with magazine rack and a Zephyr. Then there are the Stromberg-Carlson and Stewart-Warner half moon style chairsides. All need electrical restoration and are at least some cabinet work.

DC, AC sets were very rare in the mid 20s. I have an old battery eliminator kit from Antique Electric Supply when they still sold kits. I’ve also strung together 9v batteries and AAs to create the various required voltages. These radios are surprisingly low power for being tube based, they can run for hours with the right mix of 9v and AAs.

yup, picked up a couple TRF radios in the haul. One is a Freshman-Masterpiece, looks very original. The other is a 1925 Silvertone that has been updated to use newer tubes and has some newer components.

Went to pick up a single antique radio and brought home a half dozen or so, plus some assorted electronics and misc. Many are not shown. I have a lot of cleaning to do. #antiqueradios

I’ve extended the life of wifi radios using similar techniques. So many devices are run at their limits, a little extra cooling goes a long way.

Main linux rig crashed, m2 ssd no longer recognized. Removed m2, installed into external case, tested, found one chip burning hot. Hacked on a giant CPU cooler and sat it in front of a fan. Drive is working, barely, slow at times, occasional errors, but all my data is backing up without issue.

Found this beautiful piece of 1980s home entertainment on the curb in the rain the other week. Tarp had just blown off it and it had a note”Works great! Dog ate remote”. This might go in the guest room along with a few vintage video game systems 😄

I take fexofenadine in the morning and loratadine before bed. It helps some, but I don't like the side effects, I have less bad allergy reactions, but I also never feel good on them. I'm hopeful the allergy treatment I've been doing will mean less meds in the future.

They're terrible and seemingly unpredictable (unless you really follow the pollen/allergen trackers and live in a bubble). I've had them most of my life, but they got really bad when I was living in the south (thanks to the lack of winter). I'm so grateful to be back up north where I get some relief part of the year.

Allergies have really been kicking my butt this season. It wasn’t unexpected, I recall being really sick last year also. Don’t like the inflammation and brain fog it’s triggered, it makes it hard to work on projects, but it’s not as severe as it used to be thanks to the treatments I’ve been getting. Maybe next year the season won’t kick my butt so hard 🤞
