Matthew Fennell

"What I mean is, if it's a democracy, shouldn't people sort of discuss things a bit?"

"It takes longer to do things quickly; it's more expensive to do them cheaply; it's more democratic to do them in secret."

@nprofile…cz30 I'm currently using #Phosh 0.45.0 via #postmarketOS v24.12 on a #Librem5. I'm hoping to switch to #Mobian when trixie is released (if an installer image with LUKS is available).
Thank you for maintaining #Phosh! I've been using it for the last couple of years; it's improving so fast, and it was already great to begin with :)

@nprofile…atz4 I run Debian stable, and snac hadn't been packaged yet for Debian at the time of the last stable release (which was 2 years ago now). But, there's a new Debian release coming out this year, and in the meantime snac got packaged, so it will be easily available :)
Of course, if I really wanted I could set it up manually now! But, I like the convenience of installing it through Debian's own repositories.

@nprofile…7mu3 @nprofile…atz4 I hope to be joining you both in a few months, when Debian 13 gets released and #snac2 is included! I can't wait, I've been looking forward to it for a while 😁

I've written my first blog post, titled "Why open instant messaging protocols are essential for software freedom". Feedback very welcome!

@npub18et…m5kt whenever this happens to me it's almost always because I've forgotten to update the firewall 😁 and then I spend half an hour digging around ssh config wondering why it's getting dropped!

This thread contains some things I've learned (some through observation, and some the hard way!) when contributing to #FreeSoftware projects.
A lot of it seems like common sense / second nature to me now, but it wasn't always when getting started.
Of course, nothing here is a hard or fast rule, and it might not apply to every project. Wherever I say "you" below, I really mean "past and/or future me!" Anyway, here goes.
