I can't speak for the rest of the Western world because each country has its own unique issues, but America's been headed down this path since about late 2015. One side has always wanted it to come to blows, they can't attack the argument so they've resorted to going for the person instead. And there's a ton of motherfuckers celebrating it. You can't co-exist when one half wants the other half dead.

I'm not a fan of these people getting sacked for talking shit about Charlie. I'm a fan of these people getting sacked because they did the same exact thing to conservatives for 10 years straight, and now they're getting a taste. "Cancel culture" is bad, but seems to be a fitting punishment for people who have been doing the same to others. Stones and glass houses.

The dems won't learn, they're proving it as we speak. Reagan-era conservatism is over, the younger folks on the right aren't from that generation and quite honestly, refuse to think like that generation, myself included. After all, Reagan himself introduced no-fault divorce, of course I identify with the new right over the dumbass old guard that prefers to fuck everything up and favor the rich.

I find the way most people get music these days to be atrocious. Using YouTube videos, cracked versions of apps, and doing anything to get around paying for it. I have Premium as a discovery service, and then I buy tracks I want and compile them into m3u playlists by hand. Doing this allows me to get FLACs and WAVs, uncompressed, which are higher quality than streaming. The bass hits so much harder when you own the uncompressed track and a Subsonic-style streaming server.

I'm waiting at a crosswalk to go home when I see my cat, Tristan, saunter over. There's traffic albeit light because it's Christmas Day and no one's out, so I try to yoink him and he runs into the street. I finally nab him and get a couple streets over before the dream ends. Even in my damn dreams, Tristan is always being where he's not supposed to be and doing what he's not supposed to do, feckin animal. (6)

So I take the chick that was there back to her place and it turns out she's a theater hoe who can shapeshift, which is where she gets her costumes from. She morphed into a standing park bench to show me. I drop her off at her place, and then start walking back to my building. (5)

I live in a highrise in this dream but the front door is on a balcony, and turns out that the landlord moved the mailbox. (3)

So I find out about all this because my neighbor, who had no idea about the situation with my dad, invited me to a VCF-style showcase of small pet projects people in the area had. Think like homelabs and stuff. People brought their machines out to this dude's huge ass flat and took notes. I brought Pigeon Bastard out, and I remember this father-daughter duo had made an ATX case from scratch and designed a mobo to go with it. I'd suppose this is my brain's way of telling me to do better. (2)

Just had a seriously wild dream. I was living in a highrise on Christmas Day, and my dad was trying to weasel his way back into my life. So what's he do? He opens my fucking mail and tries to pay some bills for me. Come to find out that he paid a scammer claiming to be my landlord's plumber a good chunk of change (current landlord does plumbing and electrical in-house). I couldn't tell which to be more pissed about, whether he opened my mail or the AUDACITY to pretend to be my landlord. (1)

He says to observe deps between installs. Apparently once you cut systemd out for anything else, you notice a drop in packages required for functionality. I think it's useful to know insofar as it's what's being used by the industry out in the wild.

I have moral qualms about paying someone else to use server hardware that I own. When I was in middle school in the early 2010's I was introduced to the Affero clause, and that has had a knock-on effect to how I view software selection for projects like this nearing 30.

I would say the people running the project have been arrogant as of late, but unfortunately that's unrelated to the software itself. When I bring this up to people all I get is the usual "older hardware" argument.
My main reason for switching distros was that the Arc A750 I have for AV1 transcoding had drivers in testing but ZFS at the time required stable. Debian was too much of a mess for me to deal with. NFS being fixed was a happy accident that was a result from all the above.

See, looking at the types of people on Bluesky, I'd never develop for the AT protocol. At least Fedi is fragmented enough that you can usually find somewhere to stick in without worrying. If you want echo chambers on either side, those exist but you can also go to places like noauthority instead.
