We've released git-carrier, a git extension for working on large merges with many conflicts across the team.
It parks merge conflicts into ordinary commits, so resolution work can be split, handed over and reviewed using a normal git workflow.
3 git commands in one script, no dependencies.
Right now, merging Signal in our tree is our bottleneck and delays updates.
git-carrier is one of the tools we're building to fix it.

@nprofile…ckpj We host the repo on GitHub Pages, so mollyim.github.io shares the IP addresses with other GitHub Pages sites, including curbengh.github.io. That's likely why NetGuard is flagging it. I guess Droidify retrieves the repo in a way that NetGuard can't tell which site it's actually reaching.

@nprofile…fang Thanks. The project is very much alive and new beta update is coming. But DNS services for our domain are currently suspended. See https://github.com/mollyim/mollyim-android/issues/787#issuecomment-4969198591

We're late on updates, sorry! We've been stuck behind a manual merging bottleneck, especially as Signal has been making changes faster than ever.
To fix this, we're focused on automating our upstream merging pipeline. Once it's done, merges will be mostly automatic and deterministic (not just builds). Our goal is to get to the point where we can release updates every week or less. And with the time we save, we can focus more on Molly-specific features and Flatline.

@nprofile…mlje Sure. We have a private repo that deploys our Flatline instance to the cloud using GitHub Actions. This instance is currently just for development and testing, but when it's finished it will become the public demo so people can try Flatline. And the CI scripts will also be public. So yes, that's planned. But we still have a lot of work left.

Now we're working on accounts without phone numbers, and the technical draft is public.
If you're interested or might ever want to run your own server, have a look.

As some of you may know, we're building Flatline, a self‑hostable soft fork of the Signal Server. It lets you run a mostly Signal‑compatible server for research and private deployments.
We already run a Flatline server in Bahnhof cloud for internal development.

@nprofile…3eqn We don't know yet. First we need to see what's feasible. Right now we're focused on building the platform to enable research and exploration of decentralization. Once this work is complete, we'll define a roadmap and share it.

@nprofile…3eqn No FAQ or scope doc yet. Flatline is still early and under heavy development. But happy to answer specific questions here or in our chat room. We'll publish a working draft very soon on phone-less registration and the new identity model.

@nprofile…gscv Thanks! We didn’t realize GitHub uses Fastly, and since we host molly.im there, that's shown in BGP. But DNSSEC/RPKI is not something we can enable ourselves.
Your point about mirrors is valid. We'll explore hosting and mirror alternatives.

@nprofile…gscv Hey! Just to clarify, we don't use Fastly. Our releases are hosted on GitHub. If you have details on where you saw Fastly being used, we'd love to verify.

Starting with v7.68.5-1, we've unified Molly and Molly-FOSS into a single fully FOSS app, with no proprietary dependencies.
We replaced the proprietary Play Services SDK previously used by Molly with our own open-source implementation, so FCM push notifications are now supported for all users.
If you have either Molly or Molly-FOSS installed, just update like usual. No migration needed.
Molly v7.68.5-1 is already available on GitHub and F-Droid. Accrescent coming soon.

@nprofile…rwt8 Hi! If the accessibility issue also exists in Signal (i.e. it's not caused by Molly-specific features or modifications), it's better to report it on the Signal GitHub first so it can be addressed upstream and benefit everyone, not just Molly users.

@nprofile…80ey Looks like you're on the Signal beta, which makes switching to Molly harder since Molly usually follows the stable releases. If you're want to migrate to Molly, I'd recommend leaving Signal beta program. Even if you're not planning to switch, beta versions aren't ideal unless you're helping the Signal team by reporting bugs

@nprofile…u0zh We still don't know if we'll support the option to convert a secondary device into a primary one. However, if you wait for Signal to release another feature they're working on called cloud backups, you'll likely be able to do it.

@nprofile…u0zh Signal is about to release that feature. Wait a few days for us to merge it into Molly as well: https://signal.org/blog/a-synchronized-start-for-linked-devices/

Signal has changed the authentication method on their servers, breaking older versions of MollySocket. If you're using UnifiedPush notifications in Molly, update your MollySocket server to v1.6.0!

@nprofile…2d55 Go to the server's URL. If they're using at least MollySocket v1.5.x, you'll find the QR code on the homepage. But as a basic precaution, we recommend using WebSockets instead of UnifiedPush and a random server.

Sorry for the long delay in updating Molly. Recent updates to Signal have introduced several conflicts, requiring our small team to rewrite many Molly-specific features.
In the meantime, we've backported essential patches from Signal into the latest version to avoid security issues while we integrate the new updates.
As a fork, these situations are inevitable, but we're working hard to optimize the merging process. A beta update is expected within the next week. Thanks for your patience!
