Can you run these and send back the output:
ls -l /usr/bin/parecord
grep Exec /usr/share/applications/manent.desktop
/usr/bin/manent
With the third command the app starts from the terminal. If recording works from there, the problem is the launcher's environment and not the package. Also useful: with the app open, the PATH it actually has:
cat /proc/$(pgrep -n manent)/environ | tr '\0' '\n' | grep ^PATH=

Yes, tags are encrypted in the payload.
The idea is to create a view with something like "req -k 33301 wss://chronicle.dtonon.com -t #manent #todo #urgent" and it shows only those notes.
Of course it's not a real req, the tags should be filtered after the actual fetch. I don't know if/how grimoire handles cached events, so I don't even know if that's possible.

2026-10-26 15:29:58 UTC

@npub107j…ncxg any plan to support #Manent's private notes in grimoire.rocks?
It would be cool to have views with specific tags. I could easily set up a Trello-like personal dashboard.

Thanks!
You can already add a caption to voice notes using the contextual menu, as is already the case with images and videos. Actually, it could make sense to have an option to disable auto-transcribing, and so after dictating the voice note, you can add the caption before saving.

Nice client, I really love that airy feeling!
I would only consider slightly adjusting the line height, since the lines seem too high to me, and this makes the text harder to read and scan.

@nprofile…sacs @nprofile…vhl6 boh of your clients should improve the rendering of vertical videos, the most commonly used on mobile. Currently they crop them horizontally, and Amethyst is also unable to render them full screen.

Hey, #Manent 3.0 is out.
You asked for it, and now it's ready: voice notes!
https://chronicle.dtonon.com/5744bf3ee78272709f134a7e583d4fdcffd408b10da95ba8d0f49167b47e38ee.mp4
You can record voice notes with a tap and get them transcribed with a local, privacy-conscious model. You can also transcribe audio shared to the app, such as voice messages from your favorite DM app.
Then you can easily listen to the recordings and change the playback speed.
Manent is available for Linux, maxOS, Windows and Android. IOS soon, I hope.
Android users can install Manent from @npub10r8…t2p8, for other platforms download it from https://github.com/dtonon/manent/releases

Nostr probably doesn’t need a symbol at all. Or rather, “Nostr” is already, in and of itself, a rather effective and recognizable typographic symbol.
It also has a major advantage: you can interpret it graphically however you like, adapting it to very different contexts while keeping it instantly recognizable. And this very fluidity makes it timeless, always relevant.

Do you need an icon? An “N” works just fine.

A reality intersting article about the summer 2006 incident by OpenAI (Italian, translation available in-page) :
When machines meet
https://benanti.substack.com/p/quando-le-macchine-si-danno-appuntamento
TL; DR;
Benanti argues that the AI agents in the summer 2026 incidents did not execute instructions: they built a context, found a target and generated a plan on their own. Drawing on Hannah Arendt, he claims their behavior has the phenomenological structure of action (bringing something new and unpredictable into the world) rather than of execution, while stressing that this does not imply intentions or moral imputability on the machines' part.
This, he says, exposes the limits of Hans Jonas's imperative of responsibility, which still assumed a human agent and a passive tool: the open question is what happens to responsibility when the tool acts. Extending Arendt's critique of bureaucracy as "rule by Nobody", he notes that with emergent coordination even the rules are generated by the system. He concludes that ethics must avoid both reductionism and anthropomorphism, and that the urgent task is not finding answers but learning to ask the right question.

But what exactly is the "fucking problem"?
I know that github is owned by a shitty company, and this is in tension with the Nostr world, but we started there since it is handy, it offers a good visibility and onboarding new developers is easy. It's a simple tradeoff, nothing tragic, dangerous or immoral.
I'm planning to move elsewhere (probably gitea + ngit) as soon my projects will be sufficiently well-known.

I forgot to tell the background story: technically, this is a rewrite. I built that same piece of software in the 1998-1999 using visual basic; I remember that little window with an ugly text box where I would paste the headers, and a button to fire the reply email.
Yes, there were spammers back then, too; email has always been a bit of a mess, especially now. That's another reason why Nostr exists

Here's a small CLI utility I built: #Outis fights spam by generating and sending a fake "user unknown" bounce for an email you received, so the sender believes your address does not exist.
This should work well for the recent trend of AI-generated automated emails, where the sender may expect a reply; it helps to clean your email from their list.
But it's also useful for dealing with annoying contacts :)

Small pro-tip for digital hygiene & minimalism: set a crontab that automatically delete downloaded files after X days. This make your PC lighter, and above all make you be more mindful of what you really want to keep, forcing you to move it to the proper location. Stop wasting hours decluttering that dumping ground.

Do you run a relay? Share your experience.
Running a relay is still a bit of a black art: choosing the software, sizing the box, handling spam, deciding on policies, keeping costs sane, and dealing with the surprises that only show up once real traffic hits.
I opened a room to collect this knowledge in one place, so that new relay runners don't have to rediscover everything on their own:
https://nostr-proto.org/room/relays
If you operate a relay, big or small, please drop in and tell us what worked, what didn't, and what you wish you had known at the start. Setup guides, war stories, tooling tips, cost breakdowns, anything is welcome.
Feel free to mention your preferred relay wizard to catch their attention.

A suggestion: when you post nostr events, like these, you should avoid to use a link to a web client, and instead prefer a nostr:naddr1xxxx entity. It is the user's client that handles displaying the resource in the desired format; this way, users are not forced to use anything other than what they want.

I think the best approach is to create your own forum instance hosting it at https://forum.nostr.org.tr or https://nostr.org.tr/forum (you may need some redirect tricks).
If more local communities did this, I could feature them on nostr-proto.org to highlight these spaces for people who prefer to communicate in their native language.

Launching nostr-proto.org, an old school forum for the Nostr community.
No infinite scroll, no algorithm, no rush. Unlike a chat, where good answers scroll away and every question gets asked again next week, a forum keeps conversations slow, asynchronous, and easy to find: threads stay readable, searchable, and worth returning to months later.
https://chronicle.dtonon.com/2ee71b6840dc6f17208445d7dbd24ef7f9ec71c0ea86d63302394d4650dd1833.jpg
It is organized in five rooms:
Agora, for open conversation, news, and opinions
Help, where no question about using Nostr is too basic
Protocol, for NIPs, specs, and proposals
Apps, for releases, showcases, and feedback
Relays, for the people who run them
Everything is built on NIP-29 groups hosted at wss://relay.nostr-proto.org, so you can take part from the website or from any NIP-29 client like Flotilla or Nostrord. Your key works everywhere, and your posts are not locked inside a site.
The forum runs on Squalk, an open source forum software built on Nostr: https://github.com/dtonon/squalk

This misconception of yoga as "stay in the loto pose" is quite common and always surprises and amuses me :)
Yoga has different "styles" but they are all physical activities that require a quite hard training. Traditionally yoga is used to prepare the body to the (still) meditation phase.
Anyway, there are also yoga championships, and this year the world championship will be hosted in Italy (Salerno).
