This latest revelation is further evidence that the MOU between Prime Minister Carney and Premier Smith is a gift to the fossil fuel industry.
Prime Minister Carney had already abandoned most of his government’s climate measures to appease big oil and gas. Now we learn that he’s offered them a $1.2 billion escape clause to avoid even the meagre measures remaining.
At this point, it would be more honest to just give Danielle Smith and her oil industry friends the pipeline they crave.

Memo to the global community: Canada has officially abandoned climate action.
PM Carney has systematically dismantled all the insufficient policy we had in place.
A clear-eyed and devastating piece by my brother, Seth Klein.
