I heard a couple of weeks back that West Yorkshire Spinners have switched off their machines, and the factory has gone quiet. I hear today that they are hoping someone has taken it on, but nothing certain yet. WYS yarn was a staple in many a yarn shop, and it is sad to hear of its possible closure so relatively soon after the unforgivable closure of New Lanark Mill.
Being in the yarn business in the UK can be tough. But hopefully resilient. 🤞

I've never liked the way justified spacing works. It makes it so much more difficult to read in my view. And everything just ends up looking uneven and messy. But yes the font nonsense too. Ugh.

I've always been mildly cautious about believing anything on the internet. But now, I look at every single picture that is pretty, cute, inspiring, etc and my first instinct is "I wonder if that is AI".
There was the sweetest little puppy video I saw today, and I was just thinking "awwwwwwww" when I saw the small print "This video was produced using AI for your pleasurable viewing". And my "awwwww" turned to "arrrrggggggghhh".
Now we cant even trust cute puppy videos. What a sorry state.

Any Queenslanders/Australians who can recommend a search engine for accommodation south of Brisbane? Everywhere I'm looking seems very expensive and just wondering if there is a local search engine I don't know about.
At the moment a 2 bedroom apartment for my sister and I for two weeks while we visit my elderly Mum is coming in at between £1500 and £2000 which feels excessive, especially as some places are rated "disappointing" or "avoid"!

It is very frustrating. I travelled with tiny scissors from Glasgow, through Dubai, in and out of Brisbane and in to Perth WA. When I left Perth for the UK the security woman took them off me saying they were too sharp. I loved that pair of scissors but nothing could persuade her. My only option was to go BACK out of security and pack them in my luggage - and who knows how that works, given I'd waved my case off an hour earlier at check in.

The "IG Pose" can be hilarious at times, if somewhat wearing. We were at an event recently and my husband spotted another vendor who can be quite standoffish and a bit grumpy suddenly strike "the pose" (a certain stance, fake smile etc etc) as her partner took a photo of her in front of her stand. Once taken her demeanour returned to her normality - it was all just so fake.
As I've got older my patience for such facades has worn much thinner.

We were visiting friends from Germany last weekend, and our friend Vera struggles with English at times, even though her English is way WAY ahead of my German which is non existent. But sometimes when searching for an English word she describes what she's talking about. And she was trying to grasp the English name "Starling" when talking about a bird. She said, you know, the ones with the little hearts all over them. And I had never looked that closely at starlings before, but 👇 #birds

Thank you. This card doesn't have a pin number so it is good to know that there is a limit to offline payments. As someone else helpfully suggested (which I just didn't think of) I can set up a hotspot to my own phone for wifi too.

I don't use Google wallet on my personal phone, but I have to use it for tour guide work that I do for someone else so I keep it on another phone. So my question is this - in order for payments from a card held in Google Wallet to work do you need a mobile signal or can it work without wifi/mobile signal? Sorry if this sounds really ignorant but I don't understand the process.
What it boils down to is I don't want an unnecessary sim in that spare phone unless needed.

A quick question for those of you living in the Highlands. Do you know of any pharmacies offering private Covid vaccine jags? Anyone in the Inverness/Dingwall/Tain area? Boots aren't offering it in the Highlands and I really don't want a day trip to Edinburgh or Glasgow just for a jag! Thinking ahead to later in the year, so not for right now. Tnx.

I found the cut price public transport incredibly helpful in my recent trip, but I have a family member there who described the prices as "outrageous" and "unsustainable" and while I simply dismissed his opinions I have been left wondering how the city is affording this. Is sit sustainable do you think? Before I left I think I heard the new govt had put in place that the pricing would run for the next 4 years - is that right?
I would LOVE to see something similar here in Scotland.

Trying to understand my Mum's electricity bill in Australia ...... Good grief it is complex and so confusing!!
Also rang them today to sort out a new plan my 95 yr old almost blind Mum because the plan she was on was about to expire, and she asked if she could have paper bills because she finds them easier to read than electronic ones. "Yes no problem, there will just be a charge of $1.85 per bill" ..... But she's visually impaired I said. "no .... yes but there is still a charge"

A fabulous day on Westray today. I can highly recommend Westraak tours to get you to the more inaccessible places in Westray. And Saintear Cafe for lunch (and their chai tea!!!) is a must.
