Please send me your favourite sing-along bops. So far Douglas’s faves are the Mahna Mahna song from the muppets, Barbara-Ann by the Beach Boys, and the Numa Numa song of 2000s viral fame. Need more variety 🤪

The only thing more annoying than being in spicy brain club is not knowing you’re in spicy brain club 🤪😬

that’s awesome! I hope we see it on EREVs and plug-ins across the board

An underrated feature of EVs is “utility mode” whereby you can just park for a long while with the heat or AC on with ~no emissions. This is absurdly useful for parking somewhere to let the small dude finish up a car nap while I get caught up on some scrolling or posting or possibly also napping

I have been pretty offline due to ongoing postpartum health Stuff but just popping up to say how grateful I am to live in a time when croup is a minor scary instead of a terrifying and frequently deadly thing. Vaccines and dexamethasone are miracles.
Another miracle, he petted the spicy cat 🐈 today without grabbing her (much, anyway, lol 🥹❤️)

My mum is knocking it out of the park as a grandmother in many ways, but one of them is that she has wildcrafted two nice strollers from the curb just in her regular travels, not even looking for them on garbage day or w/e

If our little guy ends up somewhere on the spectrum, I’m sure it will be all the Tylenol I took during my pregnancy, and not the fact that both of his parents have ham radio licenses 🤪

Hello I’ve been mostly offline the last few months and also wasn’t in Vegas for security summer camp this past week
Please say hi to the reason for my absence, his name is Douglas and he’s the sweetest little potato
He arrived in early June and we’re over the moon 🩵

i remember one of my first trips home to canada in 2011 after moving to the US. I was riding the bus back into Toronto from the airport (before there was a train!) and there was a sign for a newcomer settlement service (settlement.org I think!) that said “you belong here” and I just burst into tears. I remember it so distinctly a decade later ❤️🇨🇦😭

Coming back from a quick trip to NYC this week we received the most Canadian form ever at customs 🤪

Overheard (in a slack): "I would please like to ban both the mastodon reply guys who have takes about bluesky, and the bluesky posters with smug takes about mastodon
they all suck, and should all be banished to Threads so that the rest of us can get on with whatever"

i think most of the security issues have been cred stuffing 😭 which yes there's a fair bit they can do about but is still fundamentally an end user thing…

we're jazzed! it's also like suuuuuuper clear from that to me that the mastodon stuff should be just a registered nonprofit, while the other thing we're doing is clearly charitable, and that's ok! good to have direction :D

i will say though that I'm _very_ confused by the GCKey system, as someone who after today will be up to 3 Canadian non-profits and one for-profit entity to deal with… am I supposed to make one for each? or one for each different service??? idk and I just end up logging in with Interac/my bank instead lolsob

to give you an idea… the IRS just added the ability to make an account like 2-3 years ago, and it lets you print out what are clearly mainframe-output transcripts of past filings
the Biden admin made honestly incredible progress with IRS infra in their few years in power - the IRS had previously been blocked from using things like… OCR. By law.

lmao TMA (too many acronyms :D)
seriously though I think i have 501c3 trauma, this stuff is SO much easier. corporations canada even has a nonprofit bylaw generator!!

2024-11-16 16:08:24 UTC

People love to complain about the CRA, because taxes duh, but their public documentation is SO GOOD. Like seriously, look at how clear this stuff is! https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/charities-giving/about-registered-charities/what-difference-between-a-registered-charity-a-non-profit-organization.html
(spending the morning FINALLY figuring out incorporation stuff for the instance, wheeeeee)

ok so Francine’s substack is $400/yr and I would pay more than 3x that to hear content from the three of them on the regular. I fully believe there are another 1000 weirdos like me out there. Bam that’s $1m/yr

I would pay an absolutely embarrassing amount of money for a buddy podcast of Levine, Francine McKenna (accounting prof and critic of the profession; “re: the auditors” was her longtime blog, she now has a substack called The Dig), and Dan Davies (Lying for Money, The Unaccountability Machine). Like SO much money.

Even the folks reporting false positives on wet wood, nails, etc almost always give five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I think both feds and provinces have jurisdiction here. Ontario cons are probably worthless on the topic so I wouldn’t waste too much time there, outside Quebec the feds are much more likely to act
Hmm this would actually be a good use of the parliamentary petition process
