#silentsunday We're currently in Spain. It's raining a lot more than usual. The temperatures are normal, around 17 degrees Celsius. The almond trees are in bloom, and between showers, the weather is pleasant. We're taking a long walk, but in the distance, we can already see rain approaching. Luckily, we got home before it started. Today, the rain won't start until 5 p.m. We're going to visit a fishing village. I hope to take some nice pictures. I wish you all a pleasant Sunday. #landscape #threes #clouds #spain #rain #photography #fediverse #photography #landscapephotography

#insectsaturday Two insects sought refuge on this tiny mushroom, that I happened to have in front of my lens. The mushroom didn't bend even a little under the weight of the "large" insect that landed on its cap. That's how light a fly is. I looked it up, and it might be a female fruit fly, but I'm not sure. I like the head with that big eye. I have no idea what the other insect is. It's so small that I didn't even notice it when I took a picture, a little bonus.

#fensterfreitag #windowfriday No, this isn't a romantic window of a holiday cottage, but the window of a prison cell in the "Gevangenpoort (prison gate)," a medieval prison in The Hague. Since 1882, the building has been a museum about the history of the building and the prison system. The cell shown here was for the wealthy and the nobility. For the common people, there were small, dark, windowless cells in the basement, sometimes holding as many as 15 men. But food there was free. If you had (payed for) such a beautiful cell with a window and a view, you had to have your own food brought to you. You could also bring your own furniture and servants! Today, all kinds of torture instruments are displayed in this room. That lovely wood-burning stove was used to heat branding irons! #photography #history #fotografie #fediverse #prison #historic #denhaag #thenetherlands #nederland #museum

Yes, very refreshing and fun to play among the water jets of a fountain on a beautiful summer day, but sometimes it suddenly stops being fun, just wet and cold. Photographed at Spuiplein in The Hague in 2014, when that fountain was still there. #doorsday The only remaining city gate in the historic port town of Hoorn in North Holland, The Netherlands. On the other side are two more of those doors. The doors are open during the day. Cyclists ride through the gate over the bridge to the other district. #doors #travel #history #doors #travel #historic #photography #streetphotography #nederland #thenetherlands #photo #fotografie #amateurphotography #photos
The gate was built in 1578 to a design by Joost Jansz. Bilhamer. At that time, it was actually a gate in the earthen ramparts of the city. The passage was built slightly curved, possibly to make it more difficult to fire a cannon into the city from outside. Bilhamer designed the gate on the city side of brick with alternating layers of natural stone and on the land side entirely of natural stone. On the land side (2nd photo), in addition to the pilasters, there are also sculpted cannon barrels. The gate is located on the former defensive moat, dug in 1577.

I love working with bokeh. The background plays the biggest role here. It is the small, fine leaf of the Jasminum nudiflorum (winter jasmine). This facade covering blooms in the Netherlands in the winter with small yellow flowers. Nice to combine with the evergreen Mahonia medea that also blooms yellow in the winter and gives large dark shiny leaves. In addition to the flowering in the winter, you have the leaf contrast the rest of the year. #garden #gardening #gardensofpixelfed #bokeh #bokehphotography #plants #pixelfed #amateurphotography #photography #photo #nature

How nice your reaction to my photo and that you are also a garden designer🌿 I just saw the Bergenia ciliata on your account. Beautiful flower and photos! I'm going to try it later on, that squeaking of the leaves 🤣. Here the plant is called "Schoenlappersplant (Shoemaker's plant)" because apparently people used to polish their shoes with the large leather leaves. I like to use them in borders because they are evergreen, bloom in April and then have beautiful large leaves for the rest of the year. Especially in small city gardens they can play an important role all year round. I read that Seattle, like the Netherlands, has a temperate maritime climate, so we will see and be able to use the same plants back and forth 😀🌺🌿.

The purple flowers of the Bergenia purpurea in my garden at the moment. In my garden, the Bergenia with its large shiny leaves replaces the Hosta, which in my garden is usually eaten by snails after a month. Large leaves give a border peace, so in my garden the Bergenia does that. The snails leave them alone and they are also evergreen and have beautiful autumn colours. But if you can have a hosta, then of course that is also very beautiful. #bloomscrolling #flowers #flower #pixelfed #macro #macro-perfection #macrophotography #blumen #fleurs #garden #gardening #gardensofpixelfed

#doorsday The gate to heaven or hell? Behind the door you only see the mountain on the other side as if you are falling down. The plaster above the door does not promise much good either. But if you stand very close you will see a narrow path going down to the left to a small cemetery one level below. I saw this gate in Carmona, a beautiful medieval town near Seville #spain . I really don't know how this photo was taken. I took the photo in a small museum in Rome, years ago. It is a strange reflection. It seems like the ceiling and also the facade with windows are mirrored, but in what? Was there perhaps a mirrored floor? But how can there be a hole in the ceiling? I have no idea. Who ever figures it out, I'd love to hear it.

This is the Tussilago farfara, In the Netherlands it is called "small coltsfoot". It looks like the dandelion, but is smaller and blooms earlier, in the Netherlands already from February on. The leaf develops after the flower at the end of the winter. After flowering the heads nod downwards. After a while they straighten up again and the spherical fluff ball unfolds. In the photograph you see all stages. The flowers are in the background. #bloomscrolling #flower #flowers #macro #bokeh #bokehphotography #nature #photo #foto #photos

I know Carnival is over, but I still want to show you something of the Carnival parade on March 8th of this year in Ayamonte #Spain with these pictures. The parade was not as big as in big cities, but that is exactly why it was so moving. There was sun, there was joy, beautiful costumes that had been worked on hard, you could see that. I was moved by it. My husband was too, he said. During that period I lay awake at night because of everything that was happening in the world. But at that moment I forgot all that and enjoyed the fun around me. If you feel like it, maybe experience it a little bit too. The dandelion (taraxacum officinale), here with its beautiful fluffy crown, so widespread, so common, but also so beautiful. Not always nice to have in your lawn or gravel path, but I always leave a few in the flower beds. Then just weed. And if you have the space, you can perhaps let them do their thing. They are edible, the leaves for salad and the flowers for tea. They are also medicinal, they are said to help against bladder infections and against high blood pressure, constipation and joint pain. #flowers #flower #wildflowers #garden #gardensofpixelfed #gardening #macro #blumen #foto #photo

You can enjoy the Hydrangea for so long. This shrub blooms profusely in the summer, even in the shade, in late summer the color changes to pink or green or very dark red depending on which variety you have. And then in winter the flowers become like lace, which is nice to photograph. Only in the spring when fresh green appears on the shrub again, I cut away the old flowers to make room for new blooms. #hydrangea #hydrangeas #flowers #flower #macro #macro-freaks #macrophotography #bloemen #foto #photo #garden #shadegardening #gardening

I borrowed a few expensive perfume bottles from my neighbor's collection to make still lifes. With a macro lens, you have to put flowers and vases more or less in a line to get as much sharpness as possible. A limitation that also makes it an extra challenge. I had not heard of photostacking at the time. #stillife #stilleven stillifephotography #macro #flowers #photos #fotos #bloemen

thank you, good idea, I could that with photostacking. I am going to try that the next time. 🥰

I love photographing flowers and finding a nice background. I like to photograph a flower in the middle of a bunch of flowers. You get nice backgrounds and you can give a different flower the leading role each time or turn or move the vase to get a different light. #flowers #bloemen #fotos #blumen #photographes #photos

Just a piece of shell on a glass table, but with a macro lens it becomes an alien landscape. I have also discovered photostacking. Now I can get a larger part of the subject sharp. A precise job though. If you forget a piece, you have to do it again. And you never get the same light again. It must be good at once. #photos #photography #schelpen #macro #macrofotografie #fotos #reflections shells

For a long time I took a picture in a shop window in The Hague every week as a puzzle for a local website. Visitors to the site would then try to guess where the picture was taken. It often resulted in special images. I enjoyed this weekly task and the reactions of the visitors. They often knew all sorts of things to tell about such a street or shop #streetphotography #fotos #photography

This is one of the first photos I took of a reflection in a puddle. It became a passion. For years I photographed buildings in The Hague reflecting in puddles. Sharp and colorful buildings lie in a gutter, are framed by paving stones, or go very far into the depths #photos #reflections #fotos #spiegelingen #fotos #streetphotography
