@nprofile…rv9n it is a good axiom, but unfortunately not the way people realistically look at things, especially in the age of social media. I try my best to do what I can.

- reply

@nprofile…rv9n I appreciate it. Back when I first got my tablet, artist friends had told me that it is going to take at least a year to feel like I actually got the hang of digital. I genuinely was not expecting to take that long, much less almost five years to feel like I was creating anything along the same level I did traditionally.
And I appreciate you at least seeing both perspectives, even if you are not a consumer of my work. I can only hope others who see the post can do the same.

2026-07-09 21:26:25 UTC

@nprofile…rv9n And keeping sketches a bit cleaner, Lining my art while still having very messy sketch art has also led to mistakes whether it's just limbs appearing thicker/thinner than they should or just being completely anatomically incorrect. Start loose, but avoid drawing over yourself too much.
With the Pico x Chico one specifically, blocking out the background I had in my head before even sketching the characters really helped with how I wanted the piece to look.

@nprofile…rv9n I started to take more advantage of the size of my tablet in order to keep the whole composition always in frame. I often made mistakes with being too zoomed in to specific parts I'm working on and not taking into account how it works in the piece as a whole.
This goes hand in hand with form, but line weight was something I very much started keying in on. Even in my older art, I sorta old stuck to the rule "outer lines are thicker" but I studied a lot of western comic book lineart.

2026-07-09 17:15:51 UTC

Like guys, I've been doing basic pin-ups for years before AI became the thing. 😂 And I drew way better before getting a tablet had me relearning how to draw for half a decade.

@nprofile…8066 @nprofile…yh90 I appreciate it. Before AI became the slop farm it has become, I looked forward to it as a way of making backgrounds because it was my least favorite part of drawing. (https://baraag.net/@dorkboydrake/110426397993655649 here's an example of the one time I did and it looked like utter dogshit) Over time I learned that not only did taking screenshots from games end up looking so much better, but became a new fun part of the process + puzzle of trying to ground my characters with as little effort as possible 😂

2026-07-09 17:00:29 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…yh90 Fair. I had considered uploading timelapses of my art alongside each of my posts but I had two reasons. First: I like having a nice looking media tab (which is why I don't like posting any white background art). Second, a friend had made a good point: The people who are convinced I am doing anything weird are going to find any reason they want to bad-mouth me. Time-lapses will turn into "well you should live stream it" will turn into "I want to see your tablet while you draw it."

2026-07-09 16:55:11 UTC

Fuck it, might as well come out and say it right now.
My life has already taken a turn for the worse in the past couple of months. Desperately broke, begging friends and family for financial support, months behind on many commissions due to declining mental health, body hasn't stopped twitching since I read the post. Not having a good time.
To those who have been so polite and patient about their comms, I appreciate your patience and I swear I will finish them as soon as mental improves.

@nprofile…yh90 I appreciate it, but I also think it would've been a little better if you could've contacted me privately at first. I've also talked to a lot of artists at this point about the dangers of false accusations ( example that comes off the top of my head: https://x.com/MadamSavvy/status/1891036824069370201 ) because I have already noticed others messaging me and losing mutuals because of how public facing you are.

2026-07-09 16:40:51 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…yh90 I studied a LOT of artists. Yes, I even studied a lot of AI art, because I admittedly loved the shading and one of my early goals as an artist was to be able to render cartoonish art with realistic lighting. ("miku in vatican" by silverwing was one of my driving inspirations doing art in high school). I spent countless hours in that span of time specifically trying to emulate this style.

@nprofile…yh90 This is a question I got asked a bunch of times in this time span (and I know you can see DMs, someone was very direct in confronting me about it). That time exactly was when I opened my media tab and saw the thumbnails of my three most recent pieces of art and went "Wow, I really am just painting by numbers here. Same angle, same faces, same low effort lighting/shading." I took a break from churning out POV slop and wanted to make art I could legitimately be proud of."
