Some other open source maintainers here who can give me advice how to deal better with external contributions?
People are ignoring the contribution guidelines, while checkmarking they have read it.
People are opening a PR and then never come back to answer comments.
People feel personally attacked when pointing out anything and produce drama, especially when submitting (prohibited) AI slop and I refuse to merge it immediatly.
All of this wastes so much time...

#fluffychat will get a new app logo with the next release. The old logo was made by a designer from Brazil I lost contact to in 2018 and was licensed under CC. This new one is designed by myself so I can have full rights.
The goal was also "small rebranding" to make FluffyChat look a little bit more mature, aiming for a more serious association without changing the name. While the name in the stores also will evolve to:
"FluffyChat Matrix Messenger".
Let me know what you think :-)

Following a lot of other open source projects (plus the recent decision from #flathub ) I've added a new requirement to the CONTRIBUTING.md of #fluffychat
> Usage of LLMs to generate code or documentation is strictly prohibited.
In a nutshell: When you use LLM for brainstorming or investigation, just keep the outcome for yourself. Write documentation in your own words and don't expect me to review thousands of generated code lines please please please :blobcatcry2:
https://github.com/krille-chan/fluffychat/pull/3053

2026-05-20 06:11:16 UTC

Am I the only one who finds it super hard to read LLM generated text? Every time someone sends me an email or documentation which was obviously generated by LLMs I need to read it 3-5 times to somehow get the actual information out of it from all of the unnecessary blah blah. To some degree I don't get it. Just writing out the few sentences by hand should not take that much time and would safe a lot of time on the other side...

2026-02-28 07:36:32 UTC

Wow… daily active users of #fluffychat on the Play Store increased from about 20k to 70k in just a few months.
I don’t have numbers for F-Droid or APK downloads, but this clearly shows the project is growing fast.
Maybe it’s time to turn this “hobby project” into something more serious?

I would like to motivate users to pick different homeservers and make #matrix more decentralized. That's why I invented this new sign up flow and I would like to have some feedback from you.
There is one homeserver always preselected for those who might be overwhelmed by this choice (currently matrix.org). However at some point I guess we need to make a compromise between decentralization and user-friendliness. What do you think? Would this work or make the onboarding too complicated?

I improved the #FluffyChat website a little bit and made it localizeable over weblate. It now even contains an imprint, the changelog, the privacy policy and a long FAQ. 🚀
Also it has a fancy new domain:

At this time neither Apple's Liquid Glass nor the new Google's Android 16 Material Design appeals to me. One looks like Windows Vista and the other one like 20 different colors begging for attention.
Are those companies' designers just bad in their job or does it mean I'm getting old? 🫣
Samsung's One UI looks nice and usable to me though. What do you think?

@nprofile…zp8e @nprofile…0n4t correct. Other clients would probably just see a static list as long as they do not implement the upcoming msc for in-message checkboxes

- reply

@nprofile…0n4t not yet, the feature is only 1 hour old. I'm going to write one later this weekend 💚

2025-05-10 13:49:15 UTC

Tiny new feature: Checkboxes in a message.
No, I'm not gonna make it a full blown task list app 😜 but it happens quite often, that my wife sends me a list of groceries when I'm walking to the supermarket. This way I'm now able to check, what I have already in my cart so I don't forget anything.
It works by sending special reactions under the hood. So anyone with reaction sending permissions in a room can check any box from any sender.
What do you think?

@nprofile…xzze K.I.

I'm proud to present a new AI feature, I've implemented in #FluffyChat. I replaced the "SEND" button with AI. It makes things so much easier. Instead of manually pushing a button to send a message like a caveman, the AI detects automatically when you finish typing and sends the input of the textfield. This leads to a much less cluttered UI and a better user experience. The error rate is minimal. 🥳
Stay tuned for more 🤖 AI features in FluffyChat implemented on a timestamp like TODAY 😄

After careful consideration I came to the conclusion that it makes no sense to keep the session export/import feature, once the key backup export/import feature is in place.
After a long transition period no one came up with a use case which a session export/import covers that is not covered by just logging in on a new device and import the key backup.
If you have know a valid use case, please comment on this.
Otherwise the key backup export/import will superset it in the next version

The modern Kanji for numbers 1-12 are actually: 一二三四五六七八九十　十一　十二
For the Kanji I saw at the clock in demon slayer I was even unable to find an online reference but each of them seem to correctly represent the number when I enter them in google translate all together

Currently just rough ideas. It would mean that there is no official default server anymore. For decentralization this would be great I guess. However, I wonder if this is still easy enough for normal users. The mastodon app started with a similar approach but then rolled back to have mastodon.social as a default server for simplicity. Would normal users be overwhelmed by "Picking a community" first before using the app? I think (hope) this is just a matter of a good UX design of this page

Today I cleaned up the room creation view a little bit by hiding unimportant state events and implement a nicer room creation widget for #fluffychat

@npub1zxn…7s3u FluffyChat should support it with latest version v1.22.0 which should be available in all appstores and sources. If anyone still finds a problem with it, please ping me here or in matrix

About the authenticated media endpoints Matrix is using, I try to push a new release candidate of FluffyChat today which supports those and then release it as soon as possible.
So hopefully nothing will break 👍😁
For server devs: FluffyChat will also look into the `unstable_features` for the "org.matrix.msc3916.stable" key. This way you can implement it on the server without the full v1.11 feature set

#FluffyChat v1.21.2 has been released 🚀 and is right now available in all AppStore (except F-Droid). This release brings several 🐞 bug fixes and a 🚨 security fix.
Rooms without a known last message are no longer jumping around in the room list and the last message in the room list now also decrypts when keys are coming afterwards.
Also a (security related) bug, where the app tried to load images from arbitrary urls, has been fixed.
