In the future, British EV drivers will be able to use their own electricity contract at on-street public EV charging points. This 'bring-your-own-power' approach will make public charging more affordable and integrate it with the energy system.

Data from German vehicle insurer HUK-COBURG (which holds a quarter of the market) shows that Germans have been choosing EVs almost twice as often since the latest oil price crisis in March: 12 per cent of car insurance policy switches in Q2 2026 were to an EV
Second-hand EVs are also becoming increasingly popular amongst frequent drivers, for whom the cost savings are even greater. Volkswagen EVs are popular as second-hand cars, whilst new German EVs are less so.

This is evident from real-world data on the energy consumption of heavy-duty electric vehicles collected by Mercedes-Benz Trucks. An average of 92–114 kWh per 100 km across various operating profiles shows that energy savings can be achieved in practice.

An electric truck operating in the mountains uses less energy than a diesel SUV
"During the data collection period from November to February, energy consumption on this route averages 92 kWh per 100 kilometers, equivalent to 10 liters of diesel. With recuperation of 25 kWh per 100 kilometers, the system operates with particularly high efficiency."

Finally, Volkswagen is launching a V2G tariff in Germany. It is now scheduled for launch in Q4 2026.
Although Volkswagen was the first German car manufacturer to release bidirectional charging functionality in their vehicles, they are now behind BMW, Mercedes and Ford (whose EVs use VW technology) in terms of announcing an actual charger and tariff bundle.

This should not replace 'dependence on oil' with 'dependence on imported vehicles'. French car makers should produce 400,000 EVs a year (2027) and one million by 2030
- Up to €100,000 of support for electric commercial/HDVs for SMEs
- Dedicated measures for industry and agrifood, such as ovens

Doubling down on electric mobility:
- The social leasing scheme, which helps lower-income households switch to an EV, returns in June with double the capacity (2 x 50,000 cars)

A new data release from Eurostat shows just how much the public #EV charging network in Europe has improved in recent years. A single charging point doesn’t make spring, but a network certainly does. More and more Europeans now have five or more charging points within a relatively short distance.
In much of north-western Europe, even within 3 kilometres. Coverage with multiple charging points in the vicinity has improved significantly, particularly in the north, east and south-east.
