@nprofile…awd8 @nprofile…2tje Do you mean reading the characters like "C colon backslash users backslash name greater than" at the command prompt itself? For that, press NVDA+p to cycle through the punctuation / symbol level. The lower levels (none, or some) will not read so many of the extra symbols. We also wrote a post awhile ago with some other tips on reading in command prompts: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/in-process-11th-april-2025/#command
I'm not sure if any of that helps? Hopefully! Please let us know if not.

As NVDA is used globally, we consider opportunities to attend conferences in different locations to connect with our diverse community of NVDA users & the wider assistive technology community. NV Access are excited to share that we will be at Sight City in Germany in May! We're keen to meet NVDA users & like-minded organisations in person in Europe. This does mean that we won't be attending CSUN this year. We will share updates on what is new with NVDA & our roadmap via our usual channels

@nprofile…s06p That would be fantastic - I know there have been varoius efforts over the years - blinux and vinux come to mind although I must admit I haven't looked lately at what might be current

@nprofile…s06p Afraid not. Screen readers work at a lot closer level with the OS than say a word processor - in order to make a Linux (or any other OS) version of NVDA, we'd need to completely rewrite the vast majority of the code - and some things might not even have an equivalent and would need to be completely redesigned. At this time, we feel our limited resources are best spent continuing to make the Windows version the best it can be - but thank you for your interest!

@nprofile…pye9 Hi Robert, good question & one I don't know offhand (if anyone does, please share!) Looking on https://reactos.org/faq/#can-i-install-reactos-and-run-any-software-compatible-with-windows-on-it I found "Can I install ReactOS and run any software compatible with Windows on it?
Probably yes. However we highly recommend to check first if your favourite app runs in ReactOS. ReactOS is still an on-going project and not all the apps and drivers runs perfect on it."
Are any of our #FOSS / #Linux friends involved in #ReactOS able to share experiences please?

Happy Open-Source Day!*
Open-Source brings so many benefits. NV Access is proud to be part of the community, from welcoming code contributions, to decreasing cost for users around the world. It's easy to see why "Open-Source First" is a popular policy for governments & companies everywhere.
(*At least in Florence, Italy - a quick search found several dates this year - Open Source not only brings innovation, but also choice!)

@nprofile…pye9 Visual highlight is the main thing. Speech Viewer might also help - you can alt+tab to it, but it puts itself on top of other windows BUT at the back of the alt+tab queue - so the quickest way to get to it is alt+SHIFT+tab

2/2 We understand users may need to run add-ons on secure screens. We are also keenly aware that allowing arbitrary code to run on secure screens can be a risk. We are building a way to allow users to run add-ons in secure contexts safely. We are working to give users more options to customise their level of security & have no plans to stop add-ons running on secure screens. As always, we encourage feedback, particularly where we have announced something & may not have considered all use cases.

@nprofile…lnwa Thanks to @nprofile…h66l for tagging us. We can't respond if we don't see a post.
NVDA is a community driven project, and one of the roles of NV Access is to help ensure that people can trust the software. There are several projects currently underway that touch on this.
We are working on a more customisable & secure corporate mode for enterprise users. We are also working on a comprehensive & secure add-on runtime & API (which will also help prevent yearly API breaking changes). 1/2
