The @nytimes announced today that it's lifting the paywall on midterms election coverage until all of the results are in. All you can eat.

"What’s happened here should be seen for what it is — straight-up government censorship, the very kind that’s forbidden by the First Amendment." @sulliview

The indispensable @jbouie
"Musk spends a large part of his free time fomenting violence and spreading the same hateful ideology that motivated some of the deadliest shootings and attacks ever to happen on American soil. It is that fact, and not the cars he builds or the rockets he launches, that ought to define his place in public life."

Right-wing “thought leaders“ have been oh so earnestly telling us that we have a lot to learn from Hungary, and I’m finally wondering if they don’t have a point. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/12/world/europe/hungary-election-orban-magyar.html?unlocked_article_code=1.aVA.SBjV.pGfwzwuvrIW2&smid=nytcore-ios-share

It’s not like I lack for self-esteem or self regard, but I don’t think I would offer to explain to the Pope — the POPE — why he’s wrong about Catholicism.

An important piece from @nprofile…fmhs — "The lies this administration is telling about Ms. Good aren’t those you deploy as part of a cover-up. Farange is scum. A target recalls: “All I could think of was his 13-year-old self sidling up to me, growling the words “Hitler was right” and other odious remarks (“To the gas chambers”, “Gas them – ssssssssss”) which he now refers to, rather quaintly, as banter.” https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/nov/25/dont-believe-nigel-farage-denials-targeted-me-for-being-jewish-and-it-hurt

2025-03-14 22:46:28 UTC

I understand that there are no ethical standards in the new administration and so officials aren't putting their investments in a blind trust, but geez wow the people defending the administration on this Signal business have absolutely put their integrity and brains in a blind trust.

When I reported on space for the NYT, Musk didn't like a story about the failure of one of his early rockets. He told me he wanted another reporter to cover SpaceX. I passed him to my editor, who explained that sources don't get to decide who covers them. This is the way. You don't let bullies dictate how they are covered. And when government pulls that crap, it violates the First Amendment.
