yeah real double edge there. Getting a career in development allowed me to keep a career in development despite the undiagnosed ADHD. Now I know I'm neurospicy AF and only made it this far due to luck.

I am definitely picking up art again for downtime activities! Which has been nice; but my career is currently collapsing and I can't afford to transition to art for a job right at this point which is where the real stress is hitting. I can't buy into the BS anymore and it's becoming impossible to get through work tasks

Computers were the special interest I could always slip into even when brain was scattered in every direction
And they have ruined it and I can't bring myself to do anything now

and historically the games released at the end of the hardware are doing such amazing things cause the Devs have worked out all the little nuances of the hardware and you're getting the best of it.

yeah your point about mods is very important. I love Nintendo games but I also really love being able to mod games. And a lot of the games that I could play on the switch I will prefer to play on PC or steam deck if that option exists. So I really am only looking at exclusives, and exclusives that I can't mod. Not every game needs mods, and I do play without as well; but having the option, especially for those content rich games would be ideal. So there's a fair bit of friction.

Been watching housemate play Pokopia and between that and Starfox and a couple other games I'm getting tempted to get a switch 2 which I had definitely said I didn't want to get because there was nothing I'd want to play enough. Le sigh!

When I was a teen in the late 90s I remember thinking "wow, I was born at the right time. Technology is so cool, this internet thing is going to bring the world together and I want to be part of that"
Now in 2026 in my 40s I am loathing what technology became and angry that I dedicated my entire professional life to it, and scared as it collapses into toxicity and tools of oppression, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do for the next 30 years, assuming any of us even get that
