Doch!

“Never rotate or flip puddle photos”—that’s what they said. Yeah, but what if I like it better this way?!—A view of St. Nicholas Church, bathed in the low October sun, from the Raumklammer—the structure meant to evoke the former Viergelinden Bridge.

I’ve actually been meaning to share this photo of the Westhafen Tower in Frankfurt am Main for quite some time. But the clouds and sky were too bright, while the underground parking garage wall and the tower’s window frames were too dark. I’ve been avoiding RAW editing for a while now, but in this case, it was necessary. I haven’t completely forgotten how to use #DarkTable—but I’d never worked with masks before. That was a bit of a learning curve. 😄 I think it was worth it—what do you think?
Thanks to @npub1jcr…7jlx for inspiring me to visit this place.

In September, I showed you the same scene at the #HumboldtForum in #Berlin – a shot taken a few seconds earlier. In this shot, I was able to remove the distracting vertical dividing line (expansion joint?) by cropping it out. As a result, the man is pushed further into the corner. The extreme wide format is also not possible – 4:3 is probably the better choice for this medium anyway.

A few weeks ago, I was out with a friend in Rostock in the evening. Suddenly, she mentioned the “Greifenbad” and turned into a backyard. The former “public spa and warm baths” was inaugurated 100 years ago and is now a residential building. I was already impressed by the entrance portal in the Art Nouveau-style façade. But it got even better.
We were lucky enough to be able to take a look inside the main hall with its blue-green ceramic walls. In the evening, it was so dark inside that I could only really admire the rich colors on my camera display. In addition to a few architecturally oriented photos, I also managed to take one in which my companion can be seen, but thanks to a 1/3s exposure time, she is not recognizable. So I am allowed to publish it here after all! Her reddish-orange glowing hair contrasts perfectly with the blue tiles on the walls.

Recently, a friend and I switched from the street to a surprisingly empty parking garage during a photo walk. In the absence of other people, we were each other's subject and had a lot of fun. At one point, I was pushing a shopping cart and spontaneously put my camera in it - perfectly captured by Martin.

Mal schauen, ob jemand darauf kommt, warum.
My photo for #PhotoMonday was taken in front of the Institute of Anatomy at the University of Rostock. I was actually waiting for someone there with an umbrella during the first rain in a while. To get some more circle segments in the picture, of course. Unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky. But I'm not unhappy with the cyclist either. Let's see if anyone can figure out why.

The photo for #WindowFriday was taken in front of one of the few stores on Kröpeliner Straße in Rostock that doesn't belong to a chain. I was attracted by the reflections of the shop windows on the damp pavement. I would have preferred to have a person right in front of each window. But two pairs of white sneakers in the ideal step position - that was luck enough. I don't like waiting in one place for more than 15 minutes.

When the #Rostock Christmas market was still being set up in mid-November, I noticed this eye-catching trailer on the Neuer Markt. With this tidy shop window, a much smaller section would look very minimalist and I would like it even better.

I couldn't switch so quickly - from capturing the sunset on one of the last warm days in Rostock's Lange Straße with a closed aperture and long exposure time - to a more suitable setting for the beautiful classic racing bike that suddenly crossed the tracks in front of me. But I think the spontaneous panning shot turned out quite well.

lange (Über)belichtungszeit trifft auf (un)beabsichtigte Kamerabewegung
long (over)exposure time meets (un)intentional camera movement 🤪
