@nprofile…0gdg planting native pollinator-friendly flowers is a great step to take. The more ground space those take up, the more bees you'll attract and also the less water you'll need to use.

@nprofile…nmr0 my art is music, specifically bass guitar. I love it because it sits at the intersection of melody, harmony, and rhythm. Bass at its best makes you want to move, while also gluing all the pieces of the band together, while *also* both carrying you through the structure of the song while *ALSO* telegraphing what is coming up next, while *ALSO also* playfully surprising you sometimes by tastefully telegraphing a fake.
Average is sooo far from good, I can't imagine letting a bot do it.

@nprofile…nmr0 that's fairly recent. I'm a young Gen X and my grandparents weren't weird about aging or planning for the ends of their lives. Their generation lived through a couple world wars and the Great Depression in the US.
I honestly think it's one more thing the parents of Boomers unintentionally did to fuck them. Boomers grew up *weird* after all the trauma their parents lived through. Society invented a fantasy world for the Boomers to grow up in and it messed them up bad.

@nprofile…nmr0 I guess I should clarify too, I don't just mean they raise boys who are polite to women or respect women. I mean they raise boys who don't have learned helplessness, who don't run to their moms to get all their emotional needs met, and who ultimately seek equity and partnership in their relationships.

@nprofile…nmr0 I appreciate that as a society we're celebrating "girl dads" who smash the patriarchy.
It's time we did the same for boy moms, the ones who smash the patriarchy by raising boys who grow up to be good to women.

@nprofile…nmr0 I've been thinking about this some this morning, and I think I'm landing on the theory that Iran sees it as much more in their interest to behave like the adult in this conflict.
Like, the US is a toddler throwing a tantrum and Iran is simply taking away its toys.
It very much looks like Iran saying "we didn't pick this fight so we're just trying to stop getting hit". That would be the reason to take out materiel not soldiers.

Apropos of nothing, if you think a declining birth rate inherently means economic collapse, you're probably racist whether you know it or not.
Human migration is a great solution to a declining domestic birth rate, if you live in a capitalist economy that demands constant growth.

Well, all those teeny tiny companies talk and figure it out in their teeny tiny local contexts.

This is one of the things that sucks so much for autistic folks.
"Yelling" really means both, you nailed both definitions. The thing that sucks is when people pick their definition based on whether they're trying to defend their behavior.
You: "Please stop yelling at (berating) me."
Them: "I'm not yelling (raised volume) at you, this is my normal voice."
They're swapping definitions to make themselves correct, and that sucks. It's an incredibly immature thing to do.

Sadly, today is not that day.

Addendum to this (thanks @nprofile…dv4q !): the receipts a victim of harassment could show won't help stop anything, it's all sock puppet accounts. The most information they can share is "see look, this *happens*. It happened to *me*."
Which, let's be honest, isn't that useful in the white supremacist patriarchal world we live in. A few new people will learn to believe the victims of harassment. That's not much return on investment when the cost is needing more therapy.

2026-03-19 22:44:08 UTC

- reply

"But Dave, why don't they moderate?"
They do. The harassers spin up new instances to get around block lists.
"But Dave, why don't they show the receipts?"
The brave ones do, when they have the energy. It invites a huge amount more harassment, so showing receipts *always* causes psychological damage.
Some folks are willing to tank that damage to get the word out. Most people understandably just want it to stop.

How (racist/sexist/whatever) harassment on Mastodon works:
1. Harasser replies to their target's post, with the reply set to "followers only", saying the most vile stuff you can imagine.
2. All the harasser's followers join in on the harassment, posting more vile stuff.
3. Nobody but the target and the harassment crew can see the vile stuff that was said.
4. Target is traumatized. Nobody else can see why.
5. Everybody says "I don't see it so it's not happening."

@nprofile…lwgl yeah, in Genesis 1 the world is water then dry ground is formed. In Genesis 2 the world is dry ground then water rises up from it. There's also discrepancy about the order of people, animals, and plants being created. Genesis 1 goes plants -> fish -> animals -> people. Genesis 2 goes plants(?) -> man -> animals/birds (no fish) -> woman.
It's so obviously a myth and not a history, but the biblical inerrancy folks just can't let it go.

"A person with a PhD in human things and who deals in human problems and human solutions cannot ever be Technical no matter how dense her statistics are, how many conferences she speaks at, and how comprehensively she has given examples of generating outcomes that are often beyond engineering to generate"
Friendly reminder, *all* fields have technical aspects. Go read an article in a peer-reviewed journal and see how much technical jargon is there.
