If you feed somebody's posts into your shitty LLM without an explicit and reversible opt-in, you are violating the consent of fedi users.
This "Zeitgeist" app not only violates consent, but it also doesn't have a centralized ActivityPub identity that can be blocked or defederated.

Facebook will rat out your abortion to the cops.
Now TikTok is compiling a list of trans people and immigrants.

I feel like we've forgotten a lot of very basic internet safety advice in the social media era.
Minors should share as little personal information as possible, as they operate online.
If you can avoid it, it is best to avoid sharing even basic information like:
- Your current/past/future first name.
- Your age, or that you are a minor.
- The city/state/country/time zone you live in.
- Your sex, gender, sexuality, or trans status.
- Photos where people or the outside can be seen.

I think I agree basically 100% with this.
Admins should be very quick to block automated accounts that might increase exposure of their users or instance to a broader-than-organic audience.

How do people use Bluesky, but think Fedi is hard.

@nprofile…wu5m I mean the preview text does say "Heil Hitler! The Holocaust was a..." so I'm going to assume Mastodon.social's ban is well justified.

2025-04-17 16:50:36 UTC

It's impressive how clew.lol responded to this week's 4chan hack by starting a fedi instance two years ago and then getting themselves banned by everyone, including mastodon.social.
Just like clockwork!

The admin.
On their very prominent, main account.
On their all-ages, art-focused instance.
Who is not afraid of supporting "groomer" accusations against admins of queer instances for much, much less damning stuff.

Okay, so WelshPixie boosted this.
Which is totally fine to say, if your point isn't to tear down trans people as a group but instead to build up Black trans people.
Except:
- The erasure of non-white trans people like Ra'il is doing is a long-established strategy to undermine queerness as degeneracy.
- Ra'il deadnames and sends death threads to queer people, demonstrating that WelshPixie's definition of "transphobia" presumably doesn't include those things.

Ro is also very proud of himself for coming up with the Very Original Idea of using "groomer" conspiracy theories to attack queer people.
You know. The whole pretext given for trans genocide by the far right.

2025-04-04 05:46:17 UTC

This is wild.
Ro started attacking Eris, unprovoked, as a way to attack another trans woman.
Ro makes up a bunch of weird, creepy, transphobic lies about Eris.
Eris hasn't really responded.
And now Ro's orbiters are going off again about how Eris is going after people.

2025-04-03 23:41:05 UTC

Ro's behaviour makes a lot more sense, now that we know he thinks Eris is gangstalking him from thousands of different accounts.

2025-03-31 22:00:23 UTC

Ugh, I'm exhausted.
Can creepy corpo organizations stop trying to implement centralized control over the Fediverse for, like, 30 seconds.

2025-03-30 23:38:05 UTC

I know this shouldn't be surprising, but it's still wild to me how silent WelshPixie becomes around transphobia.
A conference is being hosted by a massive, genocidal TERF. A bunch of WP's orbiters are speaking at the conference.
WP knows what's going on and says nothing.
But a queer guy boosts a link to an EFF article, posted by a trans woman who said "based" one time? Massive campaign. Fediblocks. Official blog posts.
Weeks of harassment, until the queer guy eventually leaves fedi.

2025-03-29 19:31:28 UTC

It's kind of wild that this is a 50 year old man, and not a fourteen year old boy.
Justifying your anti-trans stalking and harassment site on the basis that people criticized you for being a transphobe is just wild behaviour from a grown up adult.

@nprofile…m57w Okay. So the one with your tag generations a mention, where the one without doesn't.
Trying to read forcementionpolicy (I'm not great at coding), it looks like it basically parses incoming posts that you'd otherwise be able to see? So unlike a real mention, it wouldn't expand privacy under Followers Only or Mentioned People Only to include you.
What does the JSON look like for a quote that doesn't include a visible mention?

This is a reply to your post, that doesn't have you tagged.

From a technical standpoint, are the quote posts on non-Mastodon fedi basically just link previews?
Is anybody able to check any of these for me if (on Pleroma or Misskey-based software):
- People being quoted are notified that they've been quoted.
- How that notification works.
- If/how that notification will show up to Mastodon users who are quoted.
- If you can (by copying and pasting a url) quote somebody who blocks you.
- If you can bypass a block by viewing posts through a quote.

2024-12-31 21:18:21 UTC

Seriously, tech bros. I'll give you the secret to fedi not hating you.
- Run a general purpose (or specialty) instance.
- Moderate that instance at least as well as Mastodon.social.
- Develop new tools for your own use first.
- Consider the harms that could be caused by those tools being used maliciously.
- Don't freak out when people make fun of you.
- Ignore the obvious transphobic bait.

2024-12-27 21:14:42 UTC

There was a thread going around the other day, by a fairly large account, criticizing trans women for using the word "transphobia" to discuss issues that might be seen as specific to trans women.
Today, trans women are getting a ton of abuse for using the word "transmisogyny" for talking more specifically about issues that trans women face.
The only possible way for trans women to satisfy both of these criticisms would be to never talk about the discrimination they face.

2024-12-27 19:20:52 UTC

I am incredibly proud that some of my research helped Aria write this excellent piece.
It discusses most of the key meta events I've tried to catalog over the last year, often in more depth, and then put into the context of broader tech encroachment on fedi and its own incredibly personal story.

Keeping in mind that so_treu and packetcat started this out of nowhere, three days ago, this is Ro arguing that violence is appropriate against trans people who speak up against explicit transphobia and death threats.
are0h is just a 50 year old cis dude who hates trans women and frequently fantasizes about murdering queer people with baseball bats.
He isn't doing some grand anti-racist thing. He's a bigoted old man.
This is very clearly not about racism.

2024-09-09 20:26:25 UTC

One weird thing is that WelshPixie seems to think that TenForward came out ahead in yesterday's day-long meltdown of harassment, deadnaming and death threats.
I do not think that is true!
I actually think that a 30-post thread on the fediblock hashtag, full of deadnaming and death threats and very weird Youtube video is going to look pretty bad.

2024-09-09 01:02:52 UTC

It's wild how he thinks that:
a) transmisogyny does not exist, and
b) the hardest part about being trans is that JK Rowling says mean things about you on the internet.

2024-09-08 20:37:45 UTC

Adding a bit of context to the word "baeddel" in this murder threat.
Baeddel is a mostly imaginary political movement for transfemme autonomy.
It's silly, because obviously there cannot be a transfemme ethnostate, but conspiracies about the word are frequently brought up to attack trans women who are standing up for the safety of their own community.

This drama almost always happens because they've gone out of their way to find queer people to harass.
