Either we, as in the EU, pass legislation against locking out users based on their choice of tech or we soon have internet access at the mercy of a few companies.
I think this is just the most blatant of a few recent similar moments (e.g. also DB blocking you if you have "Linux" in your UA – it's not only big tech). There is no tech solution to this. There is no "just use other products" solution – are you really supposed to switch your bank because they don't like your 2FA device?
Bizarrely the situation was significantly caused by big tech going wild on scraping in the first place, thus establishing that everybody scrapes like crazy.

Looking for a software recommendation:
In my experience pdf.js (as bundled in Firefox and its derivatives) now outperforms my native PDF viewer (evince) and other Linux-compatible PDF editing tools (shout out to PDF Arranger and RNote) in some ways. But I'd like it to feel more like a standalone PDF viewer/editor app, not a tab between the hundreds of tabs.
Is there any wrapper/standalone version of pdf.js that can easily be installed on Linux?

@nprofile…3eu7 When building the @nprofile…we4j I thought a lot about this and my prediction (see https://media.ccc.de/v/36c3-10988-wohnungsbot_an_automation-drama_in_three_acts#t=1285, starting at about 21:25) was three possible outcomes:
technical barriers like CAPTCHAs – increasingly unlikely
legal barriers – looks unlikely right now, but might have a comeback
redesigning platforms
I want to resurface the last idea here. In the case of housing the idea that several "apps" tried out (back then, but probably still) was to restructure the process such that you couldn't apply to a flat anymore at all. You just enlisted as someone who was looking and then lessors could pick you out, or there was algorithmic matching, or both.
Considering concerts and such things, I could imagine several ways forward, such as everything becoming an auction-style sell (specify either your blind bet, or specify a maximum your willing to pay, et cetera). Sticking to the current model doesn't maximize platform profits – why should they leave something to the scalpers.
This of course depends on the idea of allocating resources in a "market"-style. Anything with social ambitions faces a difficult future.

@nprofile…u7p7 Have you been following up on Bitwarden's licensing changes and how close they are to trying to kill Vaultwarden etc? I haven't checked in a while, but it made me somewhat worried.

I've been made aware of the same and I'm conflicted about it. I struggle to come clear on how the meme is (still) related to Crowder and his politics. Why would you discourage the use?

I'm not too familiar with these devices myself, but I think that's the proper name for Apple laptops with silver-looking material all around the keys of the keyboard produced since 2008. Of course also happier for newer models, but I guess you wouldn't give them away. It's okay if they run unbearably slow under macOS, I'll run Lubuntu on them anyway. Screen needs to be okay though, it'll display video.

Anybody have a "Unibody MacBook" of any flavor (Pro, Air, ...) lying around that they don't use anymore and would donate for media art? I could use one or two more for an installation (link below) that I'm showing again May 22–24.
Preferably in #Berlin for pick-up, but happy to cover shipping costs in Germany too.
