I deleted Facebook in 2019. Seven years later and I haven’t missed it once.

This rush to AI is a battle between tech elites/oligarchs for economic and political dominance. A jockeying for position and status among the nation’s aristocracy. The rest of us are just numbers on a spreadsheet and blips on a screen, a means to an end.

I recently watched a video on bitcoin mining and a site in Texas that is causing noise pollution problems. The issue is the same as with these massive data centers: monstrous use of water and power resources with noise pollution stacked on top. I believe the community experienced constant low frequency sound at 85 dB and above. There have been significant health impacts reported as a result.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve also been exploring down this path, but I also wanted to build in whole house streaming functionality. I plan to use your server setup with Navidrome. I have deployed WiiM devices to each room allowing me to stream whole house via the WiiM app. WiiM devices have network capability baked in.

I buy my WiiM devices from Crutchfield so as not to support Amazon any more than absolutely necessary.

Agreed. The question becomes, is it worth building the fire exits for the minority that will actually take advantage of it?

He posted his thoughts today. I get where he’s coming from. I don’t see millions of Bluesky users ever migrating to the fediverse. It’s not a realistic expectation. VCs & billionaires are not going to build the fire exits. And if ordinary & talented enthusiasts won’t, then who will? Philosophical purity does not lend itself to successful and enduring outcomes.

“People who make $7,000 an hour, have convinced people who make $25 an hour, that people who make $7.50 an hour are the problem.”
