You can’t because you cannot control the environment the user is operating in. Instead of striving for the most convenient UX, force the user to provide the entropy. @nprofile…4rwn does this well: roll dice or take a photo or GFY.

We could out price them without the witness discount, root cause of our current situation. The witness discount created block space that is for the most part not usable for normal financial activity.

@nprofile…stwk, to expand on my last comment: the need for it to be temporary seems solely tied to the desire to disable unused segwit versions. I think there is a good case for not doing that. Specifically, policy already filters these transactions. If, as @nprofile…hyal is anticipating, spammers start using unused segwit versions, a successful soft fork would force Core’s hand and make them adopt the traditional stance on filters, if only to protect upgrade hooks. What are your thoughts on this?

I support the changes addressing contiguous data storage proposed in BIP-110. Specifically, disabling OP_IF in taproot, and limiting OP_RETURN and output sizes. I would support going further, by getting rid of OP_RETURN completely.
At the moment, I have two concerns that I hope you can address here or in one of your next videos:
1. Why make it temporary? It undermines the credibility of the changes and its expiration is “hard-forkish” in that the rules would be relaxed after expiration.
2. Why disable future witness versions? I think we have learned our lesson with SegWit and Taproot, and any proposed v2 will have to be evaluated for its potential for spam.

Hey @nprofile…0fx3 do people drop in to your Nashville campus when there are no events scheduled? I will be in town for business in the second half of May, but unfortunately there are no events scheduled. Would love to check it out and meet people.

There is no way for them to stop us dirty plebs from “brigading” them. Google and Microsoft products are much better for that.

Okay, perhaps one of several reasons why filters may be ineffective is that they cannot be changed fast enough. And, dependance on constant updates is a potential attack vector. It is still a stretch to describe the position as wanting static filters. And automatic updates by a trusted party would be crazy. Nobody of any note is talking about that or changing consensus - another strawman.
The meta point is that misrepresenting the other side’s arguments (i.e. straw manning) is not an effective strategy for persuading informed fence sitters. That is true even when you are right about the specific issue at hand.

Honestly honoured by your response and love your podcast.
I was not arguing for or against the effectiveness of filters in my post. I’m saying that @nprofile…ych7 and co want filters that change over time, not **static** filters. Representing the contrary IS a strawman.

That sounds like a strawman to me. The start of the dispute was a PR to update datacarrier size to consider Taproot. Furthermore, I haven’t heard claims that spam would be prevented, only mitigated.

ehash sounds cool but I can’t see how you can deal with block withholding attacks in that scheme. Do you agree?
