So after the latest redesign even #opensource / #linux company #SUSE has a blog without an #RSS feed? Or am I just too stupid to find it in the sources of https://www.suse.com/blog/ ?
We certainly live in interesting times… 🙄 #sigh

Strange, #GitHub usually posted "highlights of the new #Git release" blog posts nearly exactly in parallel to newly released versions[1].
But for 2.53, which was released two days ago, there still isn't one.

Wondering when's the best time to prevent #LinuxKernel regressions from hitting #Fedora #Linux?
It's now, as the first pre-release of #kernel 6.18 is out – which leaves plenty of time to find, report, debug, and fix any problems that Fedora might encounter when it will switch to 6.18.y in about eleven weeks. And testing is not even hard: just use the mainline-wo-mergew copr (https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/kernel-vanilla/mainline-wo-mergew/).
In case you want to play it a bit safer, then testing in two or three weeks is still great! But you really should be testing 6.18-rc6 (five weeks from now), as Linus by then wants all regressions fixed. But at the same time there is still enough time to report, debug, and fix many problems before they reach Fedora – or Arch Linux and openSUSE Tumbleweed, that just like Fedora regularly switch to the latest upstream series.
Testing a newer kernel series only one or two weeks before it enters Fedora[1] is way too late: most bugs can't be fixed anymore before Fedora has to switch to the new series, as the previous series by then is usually obsolete and unsupported upstream.
[1] e.g., either as part of a "kernel testing week" or through the "updates-testing" repos – this is how the update to 6.17.y will soon be prepared for #Fedora 41 and 42, which right now are still on 6.16.y, which was EOLed yesterday.

PNG is back!
https://www.programmax.net/articles/png-is-back/ (by Chris Blume)
A new PNG spec was just released! […]
[…] After 20 years of stagnation, PNG is back with renewed vigor!
What's new?
* Proper HDR support (future‐proof, too!)
* Finally recognizes APNGs (animations!)
* Officially supports Exif data
* General tidying up—fixing errata, clarifications, etc.

So, do I after all this time want to go to a #Fedora conference once more because it's relatively easy to reach?
I'm toying with the idea.
And if yes, should I give a short talk? Maybe about using upstream vanilla #kernel on Fedora #Linux for testing or development purposes?

Many thx for your insights, much appreciated!
But one thing: are you sure that page you linked to lists all 6 CVEs mitigated by SELinux in 10 years? And are there maybe more where it maybe lessened the impact or something like that?

Cyrus writes: "'In June of 2023 Red Hat made a controversial decision to change how they distribute the source code behind Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). […]
There has been a steady uptick of people stating that they will migrate (or already have) to Debian – seeking refuge from what they see as greedy corporate influence. I understand the sentiment fully. However, there’s a problem here that I want to talk about: security.
The ugly truth is that security is hard. It’s tedious. Unpleasant. And requires a lot of work to get right.
Debian does not do enough here to protect users. […]"'
