I did the math on the Stratos one up in Box Elder County. If the entire 64 square miles was dedicated to solar panels and infrastructure, it would only generate 8GW of the 9GW the project will need AND leave no room for datacenters. They either have to acquire additional land or supplement with other power sources.

All three of the major data centers in Utah are saying they will generate their own (mostly NG) power on-site and off the grid. I imagine that's because the power utility cannot provide the amount they are looking for. I've emailed Rocky Mountain Power to find out if that's the case.

These projects have been very explicit that they intend to tap into existing nearby natural gas pipelines. Even if they decided to run on propane to make up the deficit, I imagine there would be a 24x7 parade of trucks needed to bring enough in to meet their 3GW generation claims.

I asked Enbridge directly if they would have the natural gas capacity to serve the two proposed data centers in Iron County. While they did not give a direct answer, I can read between the lines that the answer is "hahaha no".
"Enbridge Gas is committed to serving all our customers safely and reliably. As part of our business strategy and commitment to our customers, we do not take on new load or customers that would adversely impact service to our existing customers.
"Additionally, we monitor growth across our service area in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho and plan strategically for system enhancements and upgrades to ensure we can meet current and future demand. This long-term planning approach is central to how we operate the system."
Translation? Whoever is already here comes first, they aren't going to raise our rates for pay for a new, large user, and they aren't likely to run around drastically increasing supply for flash-in-the-pan hype of the moment projects like this. #utpol

And when automated renewals is a very VERY solved problem too.

I only froze the last of my tomatoes because I didn't have time to process them immediately, but now I'm sold. You get so much water out of them with so much less work compared to boiling them down. #gardening

Exciting #homelab news. Someone is FINALLY making a 10GbE NIC that uses PCIe 4.0 in a x1 slot! https://www.michaelstinkerings.org/iocrest-pcie-40x1-10g-nic-review/

They don't even have a way to report invoice fraud and haven't for years, but it's not because they don't know it's happening since they include a "ignore this if you didn't buy anything" disclaimer.

I did something similar, condensing from a giant pile of 8TB drives onto 20TB disks. The power savings alone made it a break even decision within a couple of years.
I also hate that I'm doing TCO calculations on my homelab.

Matt Prince is the worst. His previous business venture was to try and get every state to make laws that he gets paid to scrub email lists. You know, for the kids and blocking porn or something.
He also infuriated most of Park City by building an oversized mansion and suing everyone who didn't like it.
It's really a shame that they offer such good technical solutions that other companies don't seem to match.

My grandfather would print many reams of documents and have these leftover for me and my brother to play with. We'd string them all over the house with scotch tape.

When you have too many tomatoes, make shakshuka.
