Oh god. A friend of mine and her hubby have been plotting to sell their holiday home, plans that will fund a gentle but lovely retirement. Three weeks ago, the day after they did the budget she awoke hearing him very upset - he was looking at his trousers and couldn’t remember what do do with them.
Long story short, he has been in hospital ever since, rapid decline, he no longer recognises her and has ‘rapid onset dimentia”. From normal husband to completely unable to function in three weeks.
Love your people. Do your wills and EPOAs. Have those holidays now.

agreed - it was when someone mentioned it and the work being done wo create tree corridors to lure them back, that I noticed too.
The ones here love the camellias. That has saved some of the camellias as I was intending to replace them (I dislike their old-lady-boring and dense nature). I have over 30, so the tui-favoured open-flowered ones will be staying now!

It is so variable across the country - we had them as a very occasional visitor in Dunedin, but in Christchurch city there are none. Zero. Here in Lower Hutt I have marauding bands of 30-40 at a time swooping through and partying in my kowhai trees.

oooh how wonderful. I live in New Zealand and have a note in my calendar on 12 October “Plant Sweetcorn”. It will be my first time.

Interesting being in Amsterdam, where cars, bicycles, pedestrians, scooters, skateboards all somewhat chaotically share the transport spaces, and no one thinks the end of the world is coming because cycles have space now.

Anyone know a furnished place in Wellington region to rent for 2-3 months from late January? Two houseproud tidy quiet women and their two well-tended and cared for wee dogs…
(We unexpectedly sold our house today.)
