I didn't even think our view of eclipse was worth any effort and didn't get the fancy sunglasses. Instead I went around the place for half an hour looking at shadows. It was magical.
I got one good shot.

Watching the Librarians: The Next Chapter¹ last night and I rolled my eyes at the fact they went out of their way to explain who John Dee was.
Me: seriously, do they think we're dumb. Everyone knows who John Dee was!
Himself: I don't know who John Dee was.
Me: Oh you know! The occultist at the Elizabethan court. Bit like Aleister Crowley, but earlier.
Himself: (blank)

I'm shopping for a new keyboard¹ and it continues to annoy me that all of Logitech marketing materials have black keyboards and mice with male characters programming, and white/pink ones with female characters editing media.

So here's me again on my sewing nonsense.
Absolute ages ago I bought this fabric from Minerva Crafts that I thought was *great*. It was navy poly with a linen texture that I got for £4 a meter. Cheap fabric that looks like expensive fabric? Winner winner.
I bought it to make Deer and Doe Fumeterre skirt which is lovely all round.

In the process of collecting *waves hand* electronics stuff I have also decided to get rid of couple of Very Old hard drives.
(Why on earth did I still have a 2.5 spinny IDE drive?)
When I have to throw out a harddrive I don't trust erasing and formatting one goddamn bit, because I've seen what modern data recovery software can do and that's scary.
So I take them fuckers apart.
Which means YAY I have three new strong magnets. They look like some cyberpunk jewellery.

I wrote the instructions manual on getting better at laundry when you suck at laundry, but I continue to suck at laundry
On which subject you should always have vinegar in the house. If you suck at laundry and forget to take wet laundry out to hang it:
- rewash on a long cycle with Vanish if available
- run another cycle from rinse stage again with 150ml of white vinegar
Most of your laundry will be demustified! Dry, smell test, rewash as needed.

On which subject I felt very good and fashun so I took some photos in the dying light of the day on the balcony. Turns out, I suck at that. But you can't get better without a little cringe, so here we go.

I love people-watching in Dublin and I doubt there is any better time to see a snapshot of Irish street fashion than between 3 and 5 pm on a Saturday.
I didn't take my camera, and for this a phone is too conspicuous, so what follows is my wordy description of what I saw.

Let's take a moment to remember the guy who made sure we don't have to change Every Goddamn Clock today, David L. Mills, creator of Network Time Protocol (NTP) who passed last year.
My wristwatch is synced to my phone, which is synced to the internet, which knows that time it is right now thanks to David Mills. Cheers to his memory 🥃

I don't know who needs to hear this but Gilette Venus Smooth and Gilette Mach 3 blades and handles are interchangeable 🪄
Mach 3 blades are anywhere between 50c and €1 cheaper per blade than even most basic Venus blades and they are WAY sharper and give a smoother shave with a little extra care.
Venus handles are WAY more comfortable to hold, especially when wet.
Do with this information what you will.

@nprofile…x759 I did lots of research into this and settled on Akaunting, but it's not free if you need advanced features. Self hostable. Very nice GUI and easy to use. Extra users, double entry, and bank sync is extra as "apps". Comes with BSL licence.
I think it's worth the money, but YMMV.

My dear federati: what's the best mastodon instance for an independent artist/maker looking to flog their goods and engage with art lovers and other makers, but living in the UK and not up for the strictness or US centric nature of mastodon.art?
Looking for my mum, Luna, who's had a tough time with social media engagement; I'll be taking her on as a client in the new year and looking for a nice place 😉
Boosts very welcome!

These are all hand made, custom, and one-of a kind. They're absurdly cute.
Still looking for a perfect gift? You can get them here, and support an independent artist while at it 😊

My dear Federati in the USA, from the USA, or otherwise engaged in the news from the USA:
I beg you please tag your posts.
I'm not even asking for a CW, they would be helpful but I can appreciate people have strong feelings on that subject.
But please, at least help me filter your toots 🥹
#USPol is a good place to start, but honestly any relevant hashtag will do, I have a list.

I am making a handbag. Stage 1.
The pattern is absolutely perfect, except it's too small to fit my laptop, so I'm meticulously hacking it by embiggening every pattern piece approx 15%, just to preserve the original proportions.
My living room floor looks like a preschool craft area. That exploded. There is no glitter in this house but I'm sure it will somehow spontaneously spring into existence any moment now.
I have been at this for hours. I will not learn from this.
