Interesting experiment I just found out about. Assuming you’re a man...
Say, out loud “I am a woman.”
How does that make you feel?
For me, it’s just so obviously incorrect I just laughed out loud. This is how I know my gender for sure.
For some other people, though, it’s been the start of a process that’s led to them realising who they really are, and having happier and healthier lives.
And then I wondered…
Who would be too scared to try saying it? And what does that say about them?

If - and I genuinely mean if - American Democracy survives the next few years, the Supreme Court will need to be reconstituted.

Since buying a rice cooker, I’ve stopped washing my rice, and it now comes out perfectly every time.
Is this some rice cooker magic, or could it somehow be perfecter if I washed it?

I've recently started having a dish for breakfast which is really delicious. Thought that I'd originally seen it in a thread somewhere, but can't refind.
In a bowl combine:
- 1-person microwave pot of sticky rice
- Teaspoon crunchy fried onions
- Teaspoon chiu chow oil
- Top with fried egg
I know there were a whole bunch of other options in the thread which all also looked delicious. But as I say, can't find the thread.
Appeal: Do you know this dish? Can you tell me about more tasty variants?

Senate: 100 people.
House: 435 people.
535 people could stop the US from taking the final steps into a dictatorship.
Both houses are on knife edges.
Thirty people could stop the US from taking the final steps into a dictatorship.
Perhaps as few as ten.
Now may already be too late.
Next year will be for sure.

The more I think about it, the more I think that the True Meaning Of Whamageddon has been lost
Once you start deliberately avoiding Christmas songs, you're denying yourself joy.
Klingons enter battle knowing they may enter Sto'Vo'Kor should chance go against them, and welcome the possibility. Would a true warrior be scared of a Christmas Song? No! They would embrace the battle!
tl;dr - a Klingon would play Christmas music MORE OFTEN!

@nprofile…59g0 I read the book by Sarah Wynn-Williams recently.
tl;dr - I realised quite early how evil everyone was, but money. Then they fired me anyway, the monsters.

In celebration of this spooky offer I'm off down the Prince Charles to watch a double bill of Dracula (1931) and Dracula's Dog.
What, vampires can't have pets? Rude.

Pride and Prejudice language query, please boost for reach. 🙂
My copy has an endnote saying that “came upon the town” is a euphemism for prostitution.
Not one I’ve heard of before, so I thought I’d look it up.
It’s not in Brewers, and every single reference I’ve found so far on the Internet is a note on Pride and Prejudice saying “This is a euphemism for prostitution” with no source.
I know search is degraded now, but can anyone give me a source or some non-P&P references?

The Supreme Court: “The definition of sex in the Equality Act 2010 makes clear that the concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man.
[…]
These are assumed to be self-explanatory and to require no further explanation.”
Hold on, wait… I’m just getting something through the earpiece…

I very much hope that the UK government are considering their options about the ongoing US coup d’etat.
Because it’s become very clear that’s what’s happening, and I for one would like to know what the fuck our plan is.

I’m going to make poor coding decisions in the future, and I know this going in.
But what I’m not going to do is fuck up because I trusted Spicy Autocomplete.
If I cost my company a million quid because I fucked up, I’ll own that.
But if you use an “AI” solution to generate your code and you get burned, I will have no fucking sympathy at all.

“If there is any person in the town, who feels emotion caused by that man's death," said Scrooge, quite agonised, "show that person to me, Spirit, I beseech you!”
[…]
The children's faces, hushed and clustered round to hear what they so little understood, were brighter; and it was a happier house for this man's death! The only emotion that the Ghost could show him, caused by the event, was one of pleasure.

Pondering if Lower Decks will ever do a Lower Decks episode where it's Higher Decks and we follow the bridge crew in an exciting high stakes episode and every so often we see Mariner and Boimler and the rest of them in the background with maybe a small interaction or two.

My dudes.
There will be no confirmation hearings for Gaetz. That ship has sailed.

Just deleted my OKCupid account.
Enshittification in action.
It was the Google of its day.
A data-driven improvement on all its predecessors. Literally 10x maybe 100x better than anything that had come before. I had so many wonderful dates from there over the years.
And now it’s unusable.
Heartbreaking.
Absolutely bloody heartbreaking.

@npub15zu…s7lx He doesn’t. He needs permission to copy it.
In the UK the relevant legislation is the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988, section 17.2.
“Copying in relation to a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work means reproducing the work in any material form.
This includes storing the work in any medium by electronic means.”

@npub15zu…s7lx This take is *terrible*.
Copyright exists to protect the rights of creators to determine how their work is used.
(It has been misused by corporations, but that is a different conversation.)
If it’s so harmless to the authors, he could have just asked for the rights to use the work in this manner. I’m sure many would have said yes.
He did not. And that’s not lawful. As *well* as not being ethical, kind, or respectful.
