I'm working on a map for Blender Conference, with restaurants and bars and other places to hang out: https://blender.land/
For this, I really would appreciate your input, especially for restaurants that have good vegan or gluten-free offerings,or otherwise are really good in dealing with dietary restrictions. Let me know if you have any suggestions to add to the map!

thanks. I was thinking of checking out NeoVIM, but now I won't bother.

Recently I learned about TouchMapper: Create tactile maps easily for any address.
They use #OpenStreetMap to create printable 3D models of an area, for people with no/bad vision to literally get a feel for the place.
I love the initiative!

pfff for years I studied a few streets away from the previous location of Blender HQ, nobody mentioned it so I guess nobody knew.

that was a presentation at bcon a few years ago. They even have a “bake” button, to bake texture & shadow maps 😹

Hahaha yeah nobody has ever described GIMP as "too commercial looking" 😹

'Graphics' could be a good category for sure.
As for non-EU software in the same category, Procreate is from Australia. GIMP originates from the US, but as it's Open Source and developed by a wide range of developers, I don't know if it's fair to put it in the list as "from the USA".

Ok, fair enough.

Is it necessary to get so specific? I mean, Blender is also used for 3D printing, medical visualisation, and pizza designing, just to name a few examples. It's definitely not limited to filmmaking.

yup, that's what I mean :)

I find it weird that https://european-alternatives.eu doesn't have a category for creative software.
I'd suggest it to them, but then you need to create an account first 😿

yeah, and also, as @npub15x5…xwus also said, lotsa unnecessary drama.

Here's the thread, with a direct link to Jonathan's response:

I think that's a good response.

I just spend some time mapping buildings in Kenya. There was a big flood in that region, and having an up-to-date map will help responders to deliver aid.

I'm celebrating 10 years of being employed by Blender!
And after 10y, you don't get a watch, but something way cooler: a heavy metal (literally) statue of Suzanne 😻
Here's to many more years of being a small part in this awesome project! 🍻🥳

What units are the sticker sizes in? I'm guessing cm?
EDIT: never mind, there is a size guide. It's inches.

If you're planning on using Blender for VFX work, be sure to include #b3d and #blender3d as tags. Otherwise there's an entire community you're not including!

Do other people feel the same? I find it incredibly frustrating when a project on GitHub starts to automatically mark & close issues when they're "stale". Usually this means that after a month of silence, the issue is automatically closed.
Do the devs really expect me to write "this is still an issue" every 30 days? Does that actually help anybody?

I didn't think that, but I love how serious & thorough the analysis is :)

I've moved!
I've switched accounts, from mastodon.art to fosstodon.org. Of course any moderator of a Mastodon instance is free to block whatever other instance they want. That's part of the job. One decision they recently made, made me no longer really feel at home there, though.
So now I'm on my new home at fosstodon.org. Mastodon is awesome like that! Freedoms all around, including moving somewhere else.
Hello World to all the people at fosstodon.org 😻
