Hello! I'm just your friendly neighborhood nerd with 10,000 hobbies.

I'm working on an open source TTRPG called #uune! We're currently doing playtesting, so feel free to drop by!

Not thrilled that a memes channel on #DeltaChat that has, up until now, been very lefty and antifascist, suddenly has started trickling in some pro-AI or AI-neutral memes.
All shortly after the DC project puts up a wishy washy policy around LLM usage that seems to allow it with some set dressing to sound human oriented.
Like yeah, sure, it's just a tool. I'm sure the environment will feel just the same in another 10 years.

2013: Windows is doing shady shit. Linux is cool but you can't game on it, and sometimes my hardware doesn't work.
2018: Oh shit we can game on Linux well now, and hardware problems are mostly gone.
2026: Well shit Linux is doing shitty shit (shit!). NetBSD is cool but you can't game on it, and sometimes my hardware doesn't work.

I can't overstate how much WebXDC apps are a killer feature for DeltaChat and other chatmail messengers.
No extra accounts, no ability to phone home, and incredible usability and flexibility.
My GF and I have shared shopping and TODO lists that sync automatically.
My D&D group has a LITERAL WIKI for shared notes, rules, quests, etc.
File sharing, event coordination, games, documents, spreadsheets, emulators, image albums, etc etc etc.
Simplify your tech, get DeltaChat.

GF and I both got our best friends onto DeltaChat this weekend. Little by little, getting folks less dependent on corporate communications platforms.

Fun fact!
Delta.Chat lets you move your profile between servers. So if you don't like the one you're on, or if it's closing down, you can just transfer without upending all of your groups and contacts.

@nprofile…0hde I'm worried about old tech *also* becoming infested with AI too unfortunately. It seems like a lot of software or products that I had trusted to be a little better have given in.
* BeagleBoard
* OnlyOffice
* DuckDuckGo
* Startpage
* Gitlab
* Mozilla
* Phillips (mostly their razors, which have AI marketing now despite that not making any sense)
* Even fucking Encyclopedia Britannica has a chatbot on their website...WHY

@nprofile…rtt8 Was HL: Alyx not the third installment?
It wasn't *called* HL3, but it was the third major title and a technical milestone in the AAA scene. It was also fun as hell and lacked the overstayed mid sections that both HL1 and 2 had that I loath every replay (HL1's being long and difficult, HL2's being long and boring).
Also, supposedly Alyx's release happened because some things changed internally at Valve, so I'm still hoping that we'll see the next chapter of Gordon's story 🤞

It will forever pain me that companies have started pushing "surround sound headphones". We only have 2 ears, you only need 2 speakers to mimick any possible stereo input.
Positional audio is down to the mix, something we can now make happen for any device and any headphones released since the invention of stereo.
Games from the 90s could do this! Games today still do if you set your sound output to "headphones".
Don't fall for products that market something you already have.

What would one reliably call that genre of fantasy and scifi that is darker in tone, but not due to being gritty or grim in subject matter. Grimy, perhaps, but often still positive and mysterious?
I've been listening to a lot of Castle Rat lately and it reminds me of stuff like The Dark Crystal and other 80s and 90s fantasy media, but I'm not sure how to pin down the description of how it makes me feel.
Sort of like a minor key song, it's not sad, just more emotionally complex.

The current version of #Debian stable is a surprisingly modern and functional Linux environment.
We have pipewire, Wayland, even working graphics and WiFi drivers!
It has (mostly) just worked!

@nprofile…lahr To expound:
Accessibility as in usability for those less technically inclined. This doesn't need to mean that there's a GUI for everything, but setup should be straightforward and well documented.
(a11y tools in the installer are also an excellent thing, and should be standard IMO)

The triangle of Linux Distros:
Accessibility, stability, lack of questionable corporate involvement.
Pick two.

Does anyone here experiment with non-fantasy themed background music for their #TTRPG games?
I'm prepping for a punk-mashup game and want to mix some more of a modern sound, maybe some Post-rock for battle and lofi for..something? I'm not quite sure how well non orchestral/ambient pieces will sit well in the background.
