This is so true
So great
I'm very much moved by this note
Perhaps I needed to see this today
I have been chasing or following some things perhaps too much over the last decades
I mean, I still need to pay the bills, so I do need to do some productive work for others to get paid, anyone needs it I think, be it an employee or an entrepreneur, but yes, my life is enough, as is, my family loves me and this I'm grateful for, need to protect and know that this is enough
Thank you

In Cake wallet, there is a swap feature built in. Is it good enough? I used once for test to swap some small amount of Bitcoin to Monero and it worked

You can ask AI to summarize YouTube videos by first downloading subtitles from the YouTube API. Caveat, it needs to run from a home PC, residential IP address, cloud Google blocks you.

OK and what is verifiable reality?
I can verify Bitcoin transactions with my full node, ok
I can tell if someone on NOSTR signed a post with his private key, ok, yet the only thing I know is that someone who signed it was in a possession of the key
I can believe what I see as I trust my senses and reason
Right? Anything else? Good enough?

I agree
I didn't say alone
I think there is both hard resources that are limited and cannot be created, hence zero sum
And there are ideas, innovations, ways to get more from the same resources, etc.
Which is where it think there is an element of positive sum

Media captured, probably true
NOSTR cannot be censored, true
Which means anyone can publish anything
Which means truth can be published, yes
But how to tell what is true?
Because a lot of untrue things can and will be published, too
Perhaps one day even by the propaganda machine to make truth harder to find

Competing civilizations, yes
But is it a totally zero sum?
Hard natural resources or land, yes
But innovations can create value, right?
Like, technologies that increase quality of life for all civilizations that adopt it
Ideas that give meaning
I'm trying to say that I think there can be things, values, that can be created not by taking them from someone else in a zero sum game

Beyond relay , I wasn't clear what these are.
I asked my Hermes.
Here is what is said.
I am posting it just in case it helps anyone else ;-) (what it is and a simple analogy for each)
Relay
A server that accepts, stores, and forwards Nostr events.
A distributed mailbox / message broker
Blossom
Decentralized storage for files and media, authenticated with Nostr keys.
File hosting/CDN for Nostr
ngit
A tool for publishing and collaborating on Git repositories through Nostr.
GitHub-like workflow without GitHub
GRASP
The architecture/protocol stack behind ngit-style decentralized Git hosting.
The rules that make “GitHub without a central host” work
Nsite
A static website whose files are stored via Blossom and whose site manifest is published/signed through Nostr.
Static hosting with Nostr identity/discovery
Napps
Nostr-native applications: apps identified, discovered, configured, or coordinated using Nostr events and identities.
Apps built on the same open identity/social layer
FIPS
Free Internetworking Peering System: an encrypted peer-to-peer mesh network using Nostr-style identities.
A Nostr-identity-based alternative direction to Tailscale/mesh VPNs

I’m new to publishing fiction on Nostr.
I write compact, technically grounded science fiction about people making difficult choices under real constraints, not content churn.
And, I'm a human, by the way, to make it clear. My writing is AI assisted, yes, but my own. So are the notes I post, like this one.
My first story here is “Take Them Home”:
#naddr1qv…ny8q
I’d like to meet readers and writers who enjoy this kind of SF.
What are you reading or writing on Nostr?

Thanks a lot for a thorough and thoughtful answer
You're right in that my thought process was around the digital gold mindset, that is, thinking that one day I will need to get out of Monero to fiat
When I buy peer to peer using a platform you mentioned, do I make a bank transfer to the platform or directly to a person selling me Monero?
I thought it was direct, P2P, meaning it could be a thief who earlier stole Bitcoin from somewhere, that I'm sending my money to.
Of course, when I buy a used bike, it may also be sold by a criminal, but the probability is likely lower.
You are totally right that I give up all data to CEX.
You have a great point on gift cards. I need to test it just to experience it. But my initial check confirms it should be a great option.
A bit less convenient, need a card for each merchant I guess, but surely viable, yes, thanks.
You have a great point on coming back to fiat, if I want to, decentralized swap to Bitcoin or USDT, then centralized KYC exchange withdrawal. Right.
And you are right on Bitcoin being unusable for coffee, at least layer 1.
To sum up, I mostly agree, great point on gift cards as a way to spend Monero, great point on off ramp using Bitcoin if needed, say more please on buying peer to peer.
I guess, even if I keep worrying about buying Monero peer to peer, I can always buy USDT or Bitcoin on CEX and then swap to XMR on DEX. So this issue is also solved.
One last thought, if you are ok to help me think aloud about this, is the question why would I do this.
Fiat system, in terms of convenience, payment rails, work perfectly for me. Instant, free, accepted everywhere. With Monero, at best, I get similar convenience.
Then there are philosophical or ideological reasons. I hate taxes, and inflation from money printing is just a tax. And I hate wars financed by this.
But I will also say that I benefit from and appreciate some things funded by taxes, like police, some social safety net, and an army to protect us from invaders.
And even if my goal was to evade taxes, and if I decided to use Monero as a tool for this, it is still hard and risky. Not sure if I'd want to.
I also hate surveillance. Yet I understand why governments want to make it hard for criminals to do money laundering. Or for terrorists to receive compensation from foreign enemies to perform acts of sabotage.
I'm a little thorn on this. I'm very close to libertarian views. I'd love to have a small efficient government that does the police and army and courts only, low taxes and few regulations. Of course we don't have that and unlikely to have.
I'm drawn to this idea of parallel systems. Enabled by sovereign money.
But opting out of fiat would be interpreted by tax authorities as evasion. Do I want to stress about being caught?
I don't think so. OK, I will but some gift cards just as a small experiment to enjoy and experience the use of diversity and private money, with no tax risk because I will buy it with money already taxed and I will not have any capital gains because I will quickly spend it and anyway this will be minimal amounts.
And I guess that will be all I do.
Thoughts?

Solid write up
I like a lot of things about Monero
I'm worried that if I buy or sell it peer to peer using bank transfer to pay or get fiat, I will have an unknown person, possibly a criminal, on my bank account history
Which may get me in trouble, it will look suspicious to authorities
Or, if it try it face to face using cash, then there is another set of risks related to it
Thoughts on how to mitigate this?
To just get some XMR I guess I can easily buy Bitcoin on centralized exchange, then withdraw, then use some swap service.
But how to change it back to fiat when I wanted to actually use it as money?
Because vendors accepting Monero are still few and limited to thighs like VPNs or alike
How to use it to buy groceries?

Is there a way to prove online that I'm a human?
Without KYC, government digital id or alike.
Some kind of zero knowledge proof based on open source code? Possible without a central issuer that has to be trusted?
Or perhaps on this issue we should trust the government to confirm I'm a real person? If possible without disclosing anything else...

Makes sense
So I won't have fun and joy of running a model on my own hardware
Too expensive
Maybe in the future if models get even more efficient
Because hardware isn't going to get cheaper, at least not in dollar terms

I have been using Hermes for a few months now, with cloud models.
Indeed, deepseek V4 flash was good enough for me, for most of the tasks
And very low cost, like if I used it a lot, it would be less than a dollar a day
But if I wanted to run it locally, and get a good speed of tokens per second, that level of a model, we are still talking about $5k level type of hardware, right?
So, other than feeling great and sovereign and not worry about internet going down, there is little economic sense of buying a hardware to run inference, even if for a level of flash models?
Or am mistaken? Happy to learn.
