SDL 1 is LGPL, which is troublesome on modern platforms without a meaningful shared library mechanism. Like it or not, a lot of my prospective audience are using Steam with Steamworks achievements, iOS, modern Xbox, modern PlayStation, or Nintendo Switch. What would be the object files that could be meaningfully relinked with a modified copy of SDL for these platforms?

It seems a lot of pundits don't like popular chat platforms and don't want free software projects' communication to end up siloed behind one.
Drew DeVault wrote in 2015 to the effect: Please stop using Slack for open-source communities. It's non-free, bloated software, and joining just to read can be a hassle. Use IRC instead and provide a bouncer, pastebin, and file drop to members of your community. 1/4

VisiCalc for the Apple II computer was the first spreadsheet program. It turned 8-bit microcomputers from toys into serious business tools, and it ruled the spreadsheet market from 1979 to 1983 when Lotus introduced 1-2-3.
But if there's VisiCalc, is there also OstroCalc?

I've been developing video games as a hobby since 1999 and professionally since 2015 as lead programmer at Retrotainment Games for 4 games and counting. I specialize in #NES and dabble in other 8- and 16-bit consoles. In addition to #homebrew games, I maintain ports of 240p Test Suite to NES, #GameBoy, and #GBA, the Action 53 menu software used by the #NESdev Compo, and #emulator test ROMs.
Personal games
Concentration Room, Thwaite, RHDE: Furniture Fight, Libbet and the Magic Floor
Professional games
Haunted: Halloween '85, Haunted: Halloween '86, Full Quiet, Garbage Pail Kids: Mad Mike and the Quest for Stale Gum
I prefer #FreeSoftware, having used #Ubuntu since 2008. I'd love to read thoughts on how proprietary software in #gamedev can become less of a necessary evil.
Expect puns and allusions to #Pinocchio and #Weebles.
