I think you hit the nail on the head. Increasing public sector spending mostly goes to benefit low income earners with money for food, shelter, education, housing and medical assistance and meaningful minimum wage. All these supports help low income earners to improve their situation and in many cases reduce the need for assistance. In multiple trials we've seen Universal Basic Income allow low earners to greatly improve their situation and contribute more to society and the tax base. Arts are greatly helped also. A few decades ago Greece was in trouble for unrestrained social spending and ballooning deficits. So there must be a sweet spot where supports increase taxable income without pushing deficits into unsustainability.

I pay my credit card off every month. Last week my bank's AI decided that payment was suspicious and reversed it. It was supposed to notify me but I can find no record of that SMS text. So the bill passed it's due date unpaid and now I'll be charged a month's interest. I want the bank to pay that interest since there was no reason for reversing that payment on the first place. AI is going to ruin all our lives.

Another problem solved by Universal Basic Income. Industry is bent on eliminating workers so let them but tax them highly to pay for UBI. One way or another industry has to support the population. UBI and taxation allows industry to remain competitive in the world market.
COPD is one of the most horrible ways to die and I have it. I'm glad we have Medical Assistance In Dying. I'd like to die on top of a big pile of wood on the beach so death and cremation are one and cleanup is done by the tide. I doubt that would allowed. It's time to end austerity which is simply a mechanism to move wealth from the poor to the rich. Universal Basic Income, rents legally based on the carrying cost of the property. That would drive down property values. High taxes on wealth. The superwealthy don't have income but instead borrow against their assets so deem that taxable income and don't allow deductions for interest on that income. Don't allow corporations to own homes unless the company uses the space directly. That would end older richer generations exploiting younger poorer ones. Companies using AI should have to pay taxes for each employee the AI displaces. I see most current societal problems as caused by wealth inequality. UK shook off feudalism and it's time to do it again.

In the US women who miscarry are also charged. Many of the uneducated Republican men (even the lawyers) think women can will a miscarriage. To put that in the religious terms they banter about, God kills three quarters of the lives he creates. Arrest God!

similar problems here in BC. A business friendly government cut taxes, fired 10k nurses, thinned out doctors and said they were going to do 'more with less'. They did less with less and the problems continue. Fortunately Powell River is somewhat isolated so it has the most affordable housing, good schools, great place to raise a family and our hospital has managed to stay well staffed. Governments will tell any lie to avoid doing what's necessary, taxing the rich. Cutting benefits is a double edged sword. The money which was spent directly into the economy is retained. Taking a large chunk out of the economy, basically a recession. The recession must be overcome before growth can happen. This is why austerity doesn't work, it creates a moribund economy whose gas tank is empty.

it would require eliminating the entire system we're all used to, that would be a hard sell. At times portions have been tried but it takes all in to make it work. The bulk of children would need about the same from the system. Those with learning disabilities and less talent would get more help. Those above average would also need more intense help and be untethered from a system of grades and levels. That introduces the problem of young people learning with older students and missing personal development with children their own age. So it has to be a holistic approach. Not just information but interpersonal relations, behavior and all facets of child development. Still, if we decided to do it we'd find a way.

what's needed is an education system that configures itself to meet the needs of the student, instead of requiring the students to meet the needs of the system. I have no clue how to do that but I'm sure if learning experts were tasked with it's design, they could come up with something.
