right now, spread out while I find homes for everything. I have a recumbent bike, a combination ab machine / rower, a knockoff infinity hoop, a knockoff rock stepper, a Gazelle, a couple sets of small weights, a boxing board, a Pilates bar, and a bunch of random resistance bands.
It’s not the worst retail therapy I’ve ever done (and I have actually used most of it!)

Weird how often those two things go together. Well. My messy bitch era coincided with a "build a home gym" era, but close enough.

Oh, I definitely don't think I'm wrong for pushing for things to go forward or removing myself from the situation. It's just hard to face the idea of giving up what I already have, and although I'm finally at a place where I feel stable enough to be ABLE to walk away, I don't *want* to.
But nothing good comes from just accepting things that aren't what I want. I don't know if I can - emotionally - get to a place where I'd be happy just being friends / phone pen pals, but if I can that's something that's on the table if he's not willing or able to move things forward at this point.

we’ve been out twice. He did pop in to see me at work once early on, was here maybe 15 minutes, and I’ve dropped something off at his house once (but he wasn’t there).
I have tried repeatedly to make plans, in many different ways. We’ve talked about going out for my birthday (which is next week), but no actual plans.
I’ve just hit my limit for the status quo.

we’re 10 minutes apart door to door. I think I’d feel differently about it if there was a distance component.

also, there’s been no physical component other than hugs, despite the banter. Last time we actually talked about things, his answer was that he was still figuring things out. I know he does not enter into physical relationships lightly, but I also feel like if he’s still not ready he’s never going to be.

where my biggest problem is is that we don’t make plans or spend any actual in person time together. We’ve been out twice in 8 months - once in early June when we first started talking, and once in October. I feel like he’s not willing or able to make space for me in his life, and I cannot get him to talk about why that is.
So yeah.

we text back & forth every day & are each others go to person for everything. Lots of deep emotional connection, but no commitment or label (although we’ve both said neither of us are looking for or talking to anyone else). Very flirty, sometimes downright dirty banter. Our interactions feel very much like being in a good, healthy relationship.
But! (Continued)

I get *super* introspective around this time every year. I look at all the areas of my life I'm dissatisfied with, and try to figure out which ones I can definitively fix, and tend to start working on those things because they feel like easy wins.
Well, I've spent the last 8 months in a not-an-actual-relationship relationship, and I'm doing a lot of thinking about that this time around. Because in a lot of ways, it's the best relationship I've ever been in, but the ways it's not? Are really an issue for me.
I'm dreading the big talk that I have to have with him very soon, because I know it could be the end of things. But I've definitely let things drag on too long already - I'm hoping he'll want to fix it, but nothing's guaranteed.
I'm still not sure I'm ready to walk away, but I'm fairly certain I'll be okay if I have to. Even if it feels bad, I need to start choosing myself.

I realize part of why I'm struggling, feeling ridiculous, feeling too needy, too much here is that I survived 16 years of neglect, casual cruelty, disrespect, and emotional abuse in my last relationship.
Part of me is just grateful to have something, anything better than that.
The other part is going to make damn sure I never feel the way my ex-husband made me feel ever again, even when the hurt is accidental rather than intentional.

This whole situation has been so different from any other potential dating situation I've ever had. Normally either it's very clear from day one that we're trying each other out in a romantic sense (i.e. actually DATING and getting to know each other along the way), or a friendship that morphed into one of us confessing feelings to the other.
Here, we started talking with the intention of rekindling an old friendship, but within the first couple of weeks, acknowledging that it felt like more than that. There's been a deep emotional connection, lots of flirting and sexual innuendos, and a not insignificant amount of just ... every day conversation. We're working through our individual issues together, and it feels like neither of us are really holding anything back. It's probably healthier than any other relationship I've ever been in, and right now, it's just a nebulous undefined connection.
Regardless of how this shakes out, he's important to me, and I'm not ready to lose him from my life a second time. I may just have to adjust my expectations about where things are - or are not - going.

The good news is, every other challenging conversation we've had has gone very well (from my perspective at least). If something's bothering me, his immediate response is "How do we fix this?" Sometimes that means he takes a bit *too* much responsibility for how I'm feeling and immediately jumps to changing behaviors instead of helping me understand what's going on, but overall, I feel like those interactions have had good outcomes, even when it's taken some real effort to get there.
I think I can be more patient if the problem is that we're just not quite on the same page yet, but I cannot let myself keep getting more and more attached to him if we're not even reading from the same book.
I am trying so hard to break patterns. I don't want to be the person who pushes down what she needs to make someone else comfortable, and I don't want to be the person who just walks away when things get hard, and I've been both of those people in the past.
I've just been trying to wait for the right time, but maybe the right time is now, when the hurt isn't yet bad enough to start morphing into resentment.
But man.
I really don't want to do have this conversation, but I don't think I can keep *not* having it either.

This week, despite being a little storm-cloudy about other stuff, I decided it was time to just say something. I told him Tuesday that I'd really like to see him this weekend. I mentioned it again on Friday night. Neither time did he really acknowledge my request, but I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
When we talked last night, it became clear that he had no intention of spending time together in person this weekend (and based on another conversation, I'm pretty sure next weekend is out as well).
When I wasn't being direct, that was one thing. But this? This hurt. It wasn't just being denied - it was feeling ignored.
But instead of just feeling bad about it, I'm determined to have a conversation. I am going to ask him to tell me where he is at, whether to him I am just someone he enjoys talking to and flirting with, or if ... for whatever reason ... he needs more time, or ... whatever is going on that's making me feel like we're stalled out.
Being determined doesn't make it any easier, though. I know it's the right thing to do. I know if I don't I'm just going to get more and more resentful and pull away, and that's not fair to either of us.

I got very little sleep last night because I'm hella anxious about a conversation that I think needs to happen imminently between myself and the guy I've been talking to for the last two and a half months.
For the first month or so, things were very emotionally intense, but also involved very little actual time together. We had a lot of great conversations, and some difficult ones, but it was almost entirely through text.
And I thought I understood it. He's very shy and socially awkward, and also a person who likes to take things very very slowly in his dating life. And I wasn't exactly ready to take a leap of faith right off the bat - I'm still not done healing from my awful marriage.
But by the beginning of July, I was starting to get a bit ... uncomfortable about the fact that he doesn't ever seem interested in making actual plans. Sure, we talk about nebulous future things that would be fun, or that we should do, but we just weren't *doing* anything to make any of it happen.
I started dropping hints. Which, I realize, is maybe not the best choice, but I was trying to not be pushy or pressure him.
Then we had three weekends in a row where we had other commitments. We're now over two months from our first meetup, and we've seen each other for about 15 minutes since then (& that was more than six weeks ago!)

Another 10 minute timer, another full bag of food related trash, and I'm still not done with just TRASH (never mind the stuff I am likely to trash because it's not worth trying to save).
My day has gone a bit off the rails, so in between housework things, I think I'm going to work on my #50Before50 list to get me thinking about happier things that the disaster room.
#DeclutterBuds

2025-05-19 13:52:21 UTC

Today, I set a timer for 10 minutes, took in a full sized black trash bag, and figured I'd try to fill as much as I could in that time.
The bag was full way before the timer went off, and I can probably fill most of another one with actual food packaging trash before I even have to start looking at what I pick up.
I need to pick up the pace because we have a houseguest coming in just under two weeks, and that room has to be fit for someone to sleep in.

2025-05-18 21:54:01 UTC

I've finally gone in and tackled a tiny tiny bit of the disaster room. The only way I'm going to get through it is a little bit a time - 20 minutes and the smell has given me and overwhelming headache.
I've pulled out two loads worth of laundry (my clothes which I haven't seen in years and things like towels - whatever he left behind for clothing I'm fine with just tossing), as well as some tote bags and handbags, most of which I'm not even going to try to save.
This is going to be weeks worth of work.
Tomorrow, I'm going to pull at least one full bag of trash, and try to alternate between stuff I'd like to see if it's salvageable and just throwing shit away.
I hate everything about this.

It was just very ... okay, if that makes sense? I'm glad I added the cheese, but when something has that few ingredients, you don't expect a whole lot (except, y'know, easy).
I think if I made it again, I'd use a little crushed red pepper to perk it up a little, maybe some bell pepper? It wasn't exciting, but maybe not every dinner has to be.

I am sick of all the things I cook, so it was new recipe night! I found a really basic recipe for ground beef and orzo, just added a little bit (okay, kind of a lot) of Italian blend shredded cheese on top.
It's not AH-MAZING, but it's perfectly serviceable and took like 20 minutes with stuff I almost always have on hand. I'll take it.

Generally speaking, I'm in a better place than I was a month ago, but man, if I'm not still having brain weasels about being apprehensive to be part of other people's lives.
I'm very fortunate to have two close friends who I am nearly 100% comfy around (I don't know that I have it in me to say 100% definitively, but I'm good with it being just about). One I've known for almost half my life - one I've only known a few years, but we're a lot alike, and I trust him implicitly.
But when it comes to like, every other person I know, I always worry that I'm the weird girl and people are just being nice and not telling me to go away, and my leaning tower of coping mechanisms aren't up to the task of making me comfortable *around my friends*.
So I guess this is the month I finally do something about maybe getting me into therapy? Because this is not sustainable, I don't think.
I no longer have "my person" (as if he ever actually was my person, but that's a whole other kettle of fish), and I don't feel like it's super healthy to just avoid people entirely, y'know?

Right now? No. However, one of my best friends just gave up his entire Friday night to talk me off the ledge because I was spiraling.
My friend and I spent a good part of the night talking about my options (my husband is a disabled vet and that's the only money we have coming in, which means I now have zero income and almost no savings), and I do have a local support system that I am just ... not quite ready to talk about this with just yet.
I'd probably be in better shape if I had an actual concrete timeline. He's apparently already started packing. I don't *think* he'll fight me for the dogs, but it's not a fight he'll win if he does.
I am the sole owner of the house we live in, but I'm not quite sure if / how I will be able to afford to keep it. Possibly with a roommate, or I may end up moving and renting it. I don't know. Too much unknown still.

2025-04-12 02:29:27 UTC

So, my life just kind of blew up tonight.
My husband - in what seems to be a very abrupt decision - has decided that in an unspecified number of days, he's taking the only vehicle we have and fucking off to live in Texas with his aunt.
Oddly enough, he just happened to see an old girlfriend to catch up twice in the last week when she was nearby on business, who also lives in Texas, but I'm *sure* that's unrelated.
We've been living together since late 2008 - we're just a couple weeks out from our 10th wedding anniversary, so there's a whole bunch of mess to untangle and I am so angry, I don't know that I have it in me to untangle it in a hurry.
Logically, even though this is going to necessitate big changes - and I hate big changes - I will likely be better off in the long run. When we next speak about things, I plan to tell him that if he does this, there's no coming back. Ever.
But right now, I'm not okay at all. I'm angry, and I'm scared, and even though this isn't my fault, I feel like a failure.
I'll likely be quiet for a bit, but please check in on me if you think of it and want to.

I have a couple of must-dos today, and a few more should-dos, but I am still recovering from the train wreck that was last week, and while I bet most of you are thinking "same", I'm really only talking about the crap that happened in my own household.

I just finished up my Discord game giveaways for the year, and I still have stuff left!
Anything in pink is a key that will soon expire. Everything else, as far as I know, has no expiration date. Most are Steam keys, but the GoG keys are noted as such.
If you can see this post, you can request a game. I will respond when I can, and go in order requested. If there are multiple games you would like, feel free to list in order of preference (up to 3), but you will only receive one key per person.
Feel free to boost. I want these to go to good homes before the end of the year.

Okay, Fediverse, tell me about your favorite puzzle games for PC and iPhone.
Bonus points* if:
- (PC) if the game is from an indie dev / smaller gaming company
- (iPhone) the game is paid and/or has a reasonable way to permanently remove ads.
I'm not too particular about type of puzzle - words, numbers, matching, packing, jigsaw/mosiac, etc. Probably the only exception is Sokoban - I am not a big fan of those and I already have several games in that style I'm not playing.

If I had to guess, it's probably people buying cheaper ingredients and/or not putting a whole lot of care into the process.
Having a poorly calibrated oven and / or overbaking can cause like half of these problems on its own. Substituting your oil / butter component (whether because of cost or for *health* reasons) can screw up a lot of baked goods. Lazy measuring of dry goods could do it.
I wouldn't say baking is *hard* but it requires an attention to detail a lot of people aren't prepared to give it.

So, not a solution for your space, because I AM JEALOUS that you have this space.
All of my cleaning cloths & hand towels are rolled and in a shoe organizer over my bathroom door (my bathroom door is directly next to my kitchen sink).
But you could absolutely do baskets or plastic containers (like shoebox size).

I hear that sometimes too, and it always surprises me.
I have *way* more interactions with a wider variety of people here than I ever did at ... the other place.
I think it's because people who want to talk to other people about whatever cool thing they're interested in came here, rather than to one of the more commercial options, while people who just wanted to be seen and not have to interact went elsewhere.

In a situation (household, friend group, whatever) where multiple people have conflicting neurodivergent needs, has it been your experience that it is always the women who are expected to suck it up? Or is it just me that finds this to almost always be the case?
