And it is finally done. All Let's plays from lparchive.org are now available on the Internet Archive (archive.org).
https://archive.org/search?query=subject%3Alparchive&tab=all
For those that didn't follow, 2 years ago i wanted to re-read a few LPs on my tablet, and realized it wouldn't be that hard to scrape lparchive.org and make an epub file out of the site. This lead to me creating https://github.com/Arwalk/lparchive2epub , a simple CLI tool that builds epubs from any LP on lparchive.org. I got it working relatively fast, had my fun, then kinda let it drift. At some point, boredom took over and i wanted to make it something that was working properly for all LP (some would break a bit, some have missing images...), so i tinkered a bit more until i reached the goal of all LPs built would succesfully pass all of epubcheck's verifications.
It is now the case, so i just built the whole lparchive.org repository, and put them on Internet Archive.
I hope this will help ensuring that this part of internet culture stays forever available.
Anyway, you can get Boatmurdered ( https://archive.org/details/lparchive-epub-dwarf-fortress-boatmurdered/ ), Headshoots ( https://archive.org/details/lparchive-epub-dwarf-fortress-headshoots ) or GuavaMoment's XCOM playthrough ( https://archive.org/details/lparchive-epub-x-com-ufo-defense ) on the go now.
That was a lot of fun, and more importantly, that may be the first time one of my project is ever "finished". I'm not sure i could improve or do more with it right now.

Shadows of Forbidden Gods is among my favorite games. It is a fun sandbox with many interactions and where most of your actions will always lead to some kind of chain reaction that gets some fun narrative around. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1741640/Shadows_of_Forbidden_Gods/
It is also a modable game, and turn-based. So I had this stupid idea: create a mod that exposes the entire game state as a MCP server, and giving control of your units through the MCP server too.

@nprofile…t3h7 6-8 months ago i had no success whatsoever with LLMs, they were really outputing garbage code imho. The models have greatly improved lately.
I still find them pretty bad at software architecture though, i made them review some PR at work and there was very obvious problems in these PR on the architecture side (with terrible distribution of responsibilities in between classes) that was itself from an LLM, and even fable was like "oh yeah this looks great".
If only llms write code in the future, that's not a big problem: they can handle that stuff like its nothing. But i'm not sure LLMs will be available that "cheaply" (it's already not cheap for most people) in the future, which means code still needs to be properly architectured for now, so that needs a lot more guidance for the LLM.
Anw yeah, latest models are nice. Have you checked https://alien.arwalk.net ?

2026-07-15 15:22:16 UTC

I have always read that making APE (actually portable executable format from cosmopolitan https://github.com/jart/cosmopolitan) with zig was not possible but I just gave fable a few hours with it and he just did a working PoC, including even some of zig's comptime stuff to show that it was properly handled. I'll look into the details of its findings soon.

@nprofile…tsag This game was 20 years in advance from a design stand point, so i wanted to know how it works internally.
This is a real time strategy game ( as in you give orders to characters and they take realtime to do them ) with randomized elements ( the infected crew is randomized, one crew is the the android and will betray you if he meets the alien, item locations are randomized ), multiple endings (killing the alien, flushing him in an airlock, escaping), and even a simple fear/morale status for the characters ( if a character is alone it starts to be scared and might not obey your orders, meeting the alien also scare them so they might just flee the scene, and the smartest thing is that having too many characters in the same place make them all start to be scared as they start to fight/bicker like in the movie).
This shit was released in 1987. With a coat of paint and a better UX it would still make a really cool game IMHO.

@nprofile…cext I've had that kind of experience in a previous workplace, where the IT department decided to force upgrade our 18.XX to 20.XX. Except our software couldn't even build on 20.XX. I found a workaround by scooping in the IT departments files the modified 18.XX iso and making a docker image out of it we can at least work.
Another fun story is _why_ we couldn't build on 20.XX. One step of our build was about parsing C header files using this piece of software called "gcc-xml", and reusing its output to generate python FFI files. Except this would fail very bizarely on 20.XX. After a whole day of digging, it looked like it wasn't behaving properly with certain flags. I asked myself "is there a version mismatch somewhere?". Running "gcc-xml --version" gave me an output along the line of "CastXML vX.X.X".
Ubuntu repositories had entirely removed gcc-xml, and replaced by another software called CastXML. Except the package was still called gcc-xml, and the binary too.
What's great is that CastXML is supposed to be backward compatible, but the reality is thats it is NOT AT ALL backward compatible, most of the flags and options being completely unavailable (at the time).
This made me stumble in one of my favorite comment on github, by someone that had the same problems than me.
> I guess I just don't understand the purpose of a backwards-compatibility mode that isn't actually backwards compatible

Yearly blog post finally done, here's my 2025 media recap. https://blog.arwalk.net/2025-media-recap/

2025-12-20 23:07:30 UTC

Ok ok, guys, Shadows of Forbidden Gods is on sale at less than 3 bucks. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1741640/Shadows_of_Forbidden_Gods/
It is the fucking best strategy game i've ever played. It is an absolutely unique game. Wanna play the ultimate villain, scheming to summon your local cthulhu? Go do it. No game does it better. What's your cthulhu like? The "making the world mad" one? The "kaiju-tier serpent razing the world" one? Or are you a slaanesh wannabee that just enslaves with their "present" that are actually just fucking magical drugs?
It's a game about stirring shit up and see what happens. The domino effect is the funniest thing ever.
The graphics? Terrible. The UI? Takes a minute to get into, but it's actually very clear once you understand it. It looks like a complicated game, but it's actually much simpler to master than you can imagine.
It was my favorite game of 2024. Go get it.

@nprofile…pvqa It's annoying when you're not used to it. I guess you refer to the topic i started, but in my experience people learn to appreciate it fast. My team never worked like that before, and grumbled quite a lot when i made a global ban on exceptions. 8 months later or so, they themselves would never go back again. And i went NUCLEAR on error handling:
1) no exceptions
2) each module has its error types that must not be shared
3) a module that's used by another has to deal with it? Well it better has errors that represents "this submodule failed that way", 2) still stands
4) When handling errors, exhaustive when/switch cases are mandatory, no else clause.
The first pass is the hardest, but once you have done all of this, there is such a level of confidence in your code, you can think about everything entirely locally to the function you're working with, it's worth everything.

The other one that i really loved was You Will Die Here Tonight, that was very good, with some interesting things in it.

Darkwood is excellent

Empty Shell is a roguelike take that keeps you on your toes

You said you wanted third person games but you quoted some first person, so i unclude some of these as well:
Wanna do sysadmin in a cave full of monsters?

System Shock is arguably a survival horror, and the remake is is fantastic

@nprofile…h6f2 should be able to do an FBA from an arbitrary point in the fast ram after copying stuff i guess then. I don't know much about GBA so I wouldnt be surprised if there are some subtle things around that make it incompatible with FBA but it could be useful already.
You can also try to use a BoundedArray to have a fixed buffer, copy your functions using the provided writer, then make a FBA out of the slice given by unusedCapacitySlice, that would avoid some calculations.

@nprofile…myxu i don't have experience for their formula stuff but I think there are plugins for that.
I saw your other post about word vs latex and I'm gonna be very unpopular but word is an excellent piece of software for most documents. Even if I wish we weren't using it, that's what we use in the WG I participate in to write norms and it has all the functionalities you might need while being easy enough to use.

@nprofile…h6f2 patterns and principles are nice and all, but in the end the purpose of a program dictates most of its structure. Patterns and principles just helps in making it reliably maintainable... as long as used properly too.
Can't pretend I've been doing programs for as long as you but that's how I feel about it though.
