So, how's cybersecurity awareness month going for everybody?.........

@nprofile…4nnf That's the right sort of logic. Predbat does that sort of calculation for me (I want to export some in the "general" agile export premium period for 21p/kWh while keeping enough for the Axle session (£1+15p) and my general use this evening.

@nprofile…4nnf Dude, you get paid on export!
If your average use is 0w, then exporting is -3000w, then you get paid the DFS premium on the 3kWh + your standard export rate

- reply

@nprofile…4nnf So your usage is zero, or you're always exporting in this session?
Re power up vs down, we're burning gas at the moment, and has is expensive. We need both decent solar and wind to get costs negative

Regraded my @nprofile…v426 Openreach FTTP from 550/75 to 1000/115 last week.
- Regrade requested on Sunday night, implemented in the early hours of Monday morning, 2 x 1 minute outages over 10 minutes
- Download Speed to Speedtest is consistently gigabit
- Download Speed to most other services not *hugely* improved
- Upload improvement (Main reason I regraded) noticeable
550 is probably the sweet spot TBH. To be clear, A&A provide some decent guidance and set expectation. I'm very happy with them

@nprofile…65q8 Definitely get that in writing :) And ask about firmware updates for the solution, and also what would happen if they need to replace parts.
Expect to use your existing UPS, as near-seamless may well be enough for everything to restart

@nprofile…65q8 Think you'll make it to SCLUG next Wednesday? If so let's have a chat there.
Basically what you or I might call a UPS isn't what a Solar Salesman might call a UPS. UPS to them is "The lights will flick off for a moment and then come back"

@nprofile…65q8 Aah, how far down the solar process have you gone?

@nprofile…65q8 Are you going with Solar EPS -> UPS -> Servers. Or is it a full gateway setup you're hoping for?

2026-02-22 07:28:24 UTC

@nprofile…65q8 @nprofile…tjh5 and being realistic, the non enterprise/ free repo is pretty solid for standard setups (say a 2-3 node cluster with ZFS replication and some backup).

@nprofile…csvl Sorry, but I'm also blaming the installer here. EPS should never have been installed this way, and I very much doubt this is in any way in compliance with manufacturers instructions...

@nprofile…csvl Shove a few fan heaters on if SEG isn't sorted?

2025-11-03 19:39:46 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…csvl so it's basically a clamp meter which measures your grid usage and presents this via modbus.
In normal operation (battery not flat) the inverter will match its output to the delta coming from the mains. 2kw load appears, inverter starts to pull 2kw from the battery so you have neutral grid usage.

@nprofile…l085 @nprofile…csvl If I wanted to cover my shed / flat roof with solar panels, it would probably be enphase.
But to cover my (standard) roof, hybrid inverter every time...

2025-10-28 11:28:48 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…csvl Enphase is expensive, and is really best suited to difficult installs (multiple aspects, shading, difficulty with DC cable runs)
A hybrid inverter also gets some benefits such as lower losses feeding PV into the battery, is generally cheaper, simpler and modbus allows local control.
I'd have gone for Fox purely because of the local control aspect tbh.

@nprofile…x759 I think the problem is they billed it as surprisingly cheap, which it doesn't seem to be. Billing it as super performant for that market, and not too much extra might have worked better.
I would actually rather have paid a 100-200 extra for a bit of extra performance, but it should do the job I need it to do.

I'm pretty much out of medium format film, I have plenty of large E6, so decided to take the linhof tk45 on holiday with me.
I forgot the golden rule that nothing is photogenic more than 5 minutes from the car.
I also got a lot of strange looks... Which comes with the territory I guess.
Looking forward to developing and seeing the results. Really hope I haven't screwed anything up! Shot a total of 9 slides today

@nprofile…x759 Public transport and /or active travel would be great, but we'd need a huge cultural shift.
To me, this is the hissyfit of car companies who have under-invested in EVs (despite long term signalling at the policy change) and risk having their cake eaten.
There is a market for decent EVs at the right price, and honestly, I don't think ford have either.
