While we’re at it, maybe also stop exposing management to the internet ‘cause they’re getting lots of stupid ideas.
(Like outsourcing operations to people who put management interfaces on the internet)

.local I can agree with as it is reserved by mDNS usage in RFC 6762 but .lan is not (yet) a TLD, but for FFS you should never use an internet registered domain internally unless you want to go through split horizons DNS hell. I have clients that have done this and it’s a nightmare.
Add PKI to the mix and well, that would explain a lot of sysadmins diagnosed with alcohol abuse disorders

Nice to see these numbers coming from outside of the Zitron-sphere (finally). How long until more mainstream financial reporting starts sounding the alarm?

I got to drive tractors from about the same age. But mine was a little older and smaller (1956 Massey Ferguson, still running in the 70’s on my grandfather’s farm).
And mine didn’t have that cushy seat - the original metal seat was still on there.

So given a rounding error, 75% of this type of violence is in-family. I don't know what to say other than what we're doing now to fight this isn't working

From experience, some plugs will shut off over certain power draws. Read the detailed spec sheets. I generally agree with @npub1lq6…nf7e that it's probably a bad idea. Better solution is a device with a thermostat.
That said, I did have a little ceramic space heater on a smart plug in a tiny basement space where I had a 3D printer that worked fine (as long as I didn't put it on the high setting).
YMMV

Now that’s something you don’t see everyday - a 1970s era Citroen DS that has been converted to a battery electric car.

This is sadly the price of success for a social network protocol/platform. If there are enough interesting people it attracts the trolls as well.
There are a few more options if you run your own instance, but that's opening a whole other can of worms. I have open follows, but because I also am subscribed to curated block lists some follows go into an approval required queue (no idea the exact rules for triggering this)

I like to point these people towards Boadicea and ask if they’d like to argue with her, or Cleopatra, or Teuta, or Zenobia, or…
It rarely changes their minds, but at least it gives me a chance to marvel anew over the accomplishments of these amazing women

I’m confused. Living in France, cheese is not considered “entertaining” by anyone.
The cheese is aged “by Wegmans”. Where exactly? They ship the cheese to local aging centers or is this done in France as well?
So many questions…

Proximity and predictability count for a *lot*. Also reducing stress for the silly things in life like “I forgot x at home this morning“ which is transformed from “my day is now a disaster“ to “I’ll be back in 10 minutes“

I was lucky enough to be in a position ~10 years ago to buy a (very) little house a 5 minute walk from home. Having this as my office and sharing with my wife when she’s working from ‘home’ is a huge quality of life improvement having that separation but with a predictable and short ‘commute’.
