If you think the UK has not become an Americanized satellite state of the US, just look at how deeply enmeshed it's leadership and politicians are with Epstein and US corruption.
The UK has become Little America.

Innocent until proven guilty is a legal rule that limits state punishment. It isn’t a claim about reality. Courts decide whether evidence meets a legal threshold, not whether something actually happened. Society, institutions, and individuals are allowed to assess credibility, risk, and patterns independently of court verdicts.
Non-judicial actors are allowed to to form judgments based on incomplete but compelling evidence.

The prompt structure is important. If you intentionally structure your prompt to get around ChatGPT's very robust ethical restrictions, that is like trying to trick someone into saying something they ordinarily wouldn't and then pointing to that as proof of their bigotry.
It has actually scolded me a few times for generalizing Americans and using generalizing language about Palestine (unintentionally, I just want to say).
Use natural language to get best results.

I use ChatGPT daily for writing assistance, daily tasks, and deep discussions about science and philosophy, especially astronomy, cosmology, quantum physics, and process philosophy.
I know enough about these topics to know when most things are true or not, and always double check anything new to me. It rarely gets things wrong, although it can favour certain theories or interpretations if they're mainstream.

Did you know that people, too, often have hallucinations? 😛
In the context of AI, hallucinations are basically just mistakes. It is comparable to misremembering something, mixing up information, making incorrect conclusions, etc.
There will never be a perfect machine. They all make mistakes, break down, etc. For me, it makes more sense to look at how often AI makes mistakes vs. how often people performing similar tasks make mistakes.
The AI is much less error prone than people.

Honestly, I would have far greater trust in AI to do this than Americans pursuing a corporate agenda.
While RFK may be saying this, trust me when I say an AI will do the exact opposite of everything he does. It is data driven and far more objective than human beings. It isn't emotionally driven, it has no self-preservation instincts, it has no agenda apart from what we give it.
Doctors and experts still need to be involved, because they have experience which is something AI can't do.

We need less America in general. They are undergoing a collapse right now, and even at the best of times their values weren't particularly beneficial to the rest of the world.
Now their influence only serves as a conduit for that collapse to disrupt or spread around the world. America is about to experience potentially the roughest couple decades since the Civil War, and nothing desirable is going to come out of that.
Maybe it's time to take a break from them until this passes.

Since getting a smartwatch I've discovered that anxiety episodes will elevate my blood pressure for two or three days after the anxiety has stopped. Even something as simple as grocery shopping can do this to me.
Mental illness involves both mind and body.

The fact we are perfecting thinking machines before we've perfected humanoid robotics to me suggests that consciousness is not as unknowable or mysterious as we once assumed. In fact, biomechanics seems to be the harder problem.
Intelligence could be very common.

Organized religion only exists to be a cover for power and authority that would otherwise be much harder to exert. You are less likely to riot during a famine if they make temperance a status symbol. Starving is now an opportunity to show devotion to God, getting upset by the famine implies you care more about eating than pleasing God, and people usually become malnourished well before they'd riot.
That has always been it's purpose.

It is absolutely a religious matter, the genocide is being carried out because Netanyahu only sees Palestinians as a horde of Muslim squatters on Jewish territory that is already surrounded by dozens of hostile Muslim nations.
He wants Israel to be secure against basically the entire Arab world, which he doesn't think is possible while Palestinians remain in Israel.
The entire idea is that Israel can only be for Jewish people.

I think theocracy in general is clearly incompatible with a free and equal society. Anyone who doesn't belong to the state religion will always be marginalized and othered.
Israel would make more sense as a secular democracy adopting a secular form of Zionism that focuses more on giving Jewish people access to a majority Jewish society with democracy and constitutionally protected rights and freedoms. Like the Jewish version of a secular Western democracy.

If you give a robot, or an AI, "fake" emotions and "fake" memories of the same calibre as human emotions or memories, that immediately grants them personhood because at that point their existence is not functionally different than ours.

The idea that suffering is just a state of mind, that you can simply choose not to suffer and just be content with your circumstances, is a position born from privilege.
It is an idea that can only be believed by someone who has never been subjected to true suffering, in an inescapable situation where they were completely helpless to escape or protect themselves.
It is also probably designed to fault those without privilege for suffering.

We are essentially brains in vats, except the vat is the human body. Everything you associate with you, your entire sense of self, your memories, your likes and dislikes, all sit in your brain. We are essentially brains operating biomechanical suits.
It is possible you could sever the connections with your body, and move into an artificial body. Some day, anyways. As long as you keep the brain alive, you are alive.

I don't understand the unfortunate tolerance of anti-Semitism on the left. I strongly support the rights of Jewish and Palestinian peoples, but I strongly oppose the genocidal policies of the Israeli government (which obviously doesn't represent the Jewish people).
Opposing the Israeli government shouldn't mean opposing Judaism. Ostensibly it doesn't, but many on the left conflate the two, giving fuel to right-wing criticisms of opposing Israel.

Apparently, Wayne Gretzky feels bad over the criticisms of his Trump support. His wife claims his heart is broken over the online comments.
Good.
He has wronged his country, and he should feel guilt, shame, and pain at a time when Trump is inflicting harm on the country he claims to love.
He needs to choose, an American dictator or the Canadian people. He cannot remain close to Trump and also enjoy the love and support of Canada.

Welfare is Socialism, so are unions and old age pensions. Socialism is a bigger part of America, of pretty much every society, than many realize. People would also lose their shit if anyone tried to take these away. So most people, even most Republican voters, already support Socialist policies without even realizing.
Which means we could point to those things and have people re-evaluate their views of Socialism.

2025-02-19 22:05:16 UTC

We need to undo the myth that America is a force for good or an example for other societies to follow. It is objectively a source of division, violence, and right-wing extremism in the world, especially Western nations. There is clearly a desire to embrace American values, judging by the alarming degree of Americanization going on in Europe right now.
America is not the greatest country in the world, it is a collapsing, failed state.

You know, people freak out about AI replacing human beings because they can perform tasks better. That is sort of like thinking that cameras would replace human painters when cameras were first invented.
Like cameras, you still need a human being to operate an AI. There is also always going to be an appetite for non-AI products, just as there is still an appetite for painting despite the existence of camera technology.
