I would say Liquid Glass is less offensive on macOS but the reason is probably that I have "reduce transparency" and "increase contrast" enabled 🤣

The moving truck is running out of space. The mental bargaining on what's important and what's not has begun. Again.

Google Docs is down.
This is your regular reminder that there are better options, that don't require a web browser and a live Internet connection.

Okay this AI datacenter in space bullshit -
how the hell do they think they're going to cool the servers? or repair / replace them?

So it looks like Trump just said we're going into Venezuela "via the land" and that he doesn't actually need a declaration of war he's just going to go in and "kill them"
I just can't fucking process this. The Constitution is now more useful for wiping your ass.

It is deeply satisfying when you hear the "plonk" sound as the jars fully seal when you take them out of the water.

It was still in operation when I left that job in 1997, but it was being replaced by a Sun SPARCserver.

I do like the Cosmic Orange color on the iPhone 17 Pro, but my 16 is fine
and when it's time for a new phone, I won't be buying an Apple one anyhow (or Google or Samsung)
Right now Apple has a leg up for me because it lets me disable "Apple Intelligence" vs having to do developer level stuff to disable Gemini on Android.

Whoever decided that backspace should take you backwards in a browser in the 90s, I want to have a word with you.
That is still biting me in the ass today.

2025-08-10 19:57:28 UTC

so something I've thought about -
Open source "democratized" the ability to write software - you don't need commercial compilers. It opened up the space for more people. Sort of like our 8 bit machines that just started with "READY"
AI is closing that ecosystem back down. "Thought leaders" and CEOs are pushing the use of AI agents, which cost money to use - it's a form of gatekeeping.
ugh this isn't a fully formed thought but it's something that's bothering me greatly.

It's time for me to start looking.
I'm looking for a senior / staff engineer position. My career has been focused on backend - web services, distributed systems and database.
I'd like to find a technical role in a non-tech company.
Remote only, please.
Thanks!

There's a newer CP/M distribution that's a lot faster.
It still doesn't compete with a CP/M card on an Apple IIe though.
