I sometimes see on my feed a new post from an artist on misskey.io that originally started posting uncensored works to baraag, but have now moved to only posting censored works to misskey with their baraag account now dormant. It makes me a little sad, but I assume it is simply because the western culture on baraag does not fit them.

A new young artist has some art in a local gallery show. At the opening, an art critic approaches the artist and asks if he'd like a critique of his art.
Artist: Sure, I would like to hear that.
Critic: It is worthless.
Artist: I know, but I would like to hear it anyway.

@nprofile…d6du I was the same most of my life as well, and if I went back in time to talk to my older self I am sure they would be surprised to see me now as a gym rat.
What helped me to start my fitness journey was to turn my workouts into a game of sorts. For example I would build a music playlist with a specific BPM of 145-150 and run the treadmill to the rhythm of the song that was playing, timing it so that my foot lands to the beat of the music.

2026-08-07 16:48:25 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…d6du Later I would move on from treadmill for cardio and started pursuing boxing for both cardio + resistance training, but I still transferred the rhythm game concept to it by striking the punching bag to the beat.
After having done this routinely for so many years, I no longer make use of this method because my workouts have become so habit forming without any need to make it a game

@nprofile…m32r @nprofile…wtqu I stand by my decision because I needed the reports to be addressed so that new ones would cease, effectively ending the witch hunt.
It is also worth mentioning that dorkboydrake just admitted to previously using AI assistance for backgrounds without disclosing it until I asked him to.

@nprofile…clq4 @nprofile…8066 thank you for being honest about using AI to generate the background for this. However, per the rules I need you to use the edit function to add the #AI tag to this post to disclose AI assistance

@nprofile…a0ea I am able to see when users last logged in to know if they would respond based on their recent activity. I wanted to put an end to the rumors and suspicions bogging up the report queue, and so I confronted @nprofile…clq4 to publicly address it.

2026-07-09 16:55:08 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…clq4 I am hardly public facing. Personal posts that are not technical PSAs about the baraag site itself or boosted reblogs of other users are few and far in between on my account here.
The fact of the matter is that I kept repeatedly getting reports on you using AI. I needed you to address this publicly to put an end to it.

2026-07-09 16:37:56 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…clq4 very well. I apologize for the very serious accusation. I am on edge lately with artists refusing to disclose AI assistance in their works, and the discrepancy in such a short time span was a major red flag that I wanted you to publicly address.

@nprofile…frn0 sorry I am not understanding the question. You are still allowed to post NSFW, you just don’t have to do anything now whenever you upload NSFW art because the post will automatically be marked as sensitive content by default.

- reply

As a reminder, you can leave blank the text field box where it says “Content warning (optional)”
The only time it is required that you write something in this field box is when your uploaded NSFW media contains 3DCG or any extreme content (guro, gore, vore, excrement, toddlercon, etc)

Leave the ⚠️ highlighted and on if you are uploading NSFW.
This change is to ensure better compliance with ensuring that NSFW content is only accessed by adults when a post is viewed publicly without being logged in.
I realize many users have muscle memory with manually turning on the sensitive content marker, but please get used to being already on by default.
Check that it is enable at the bottom of your settings here:
https://baraag.net/settings/preferences/posting_defaults
https://media.baraag.net/media_attachments/files/116/745/989/095/895/772/original/25ec0bdb4b7c5c24.jpeg

2026-06-14 01:59:58 UTC

We have changed it so that whenever you upload media, the post composition form will automatically mark your content as sensitive by default. You can see this is in effect because the ⚠️ icon beneath the uploaded content is highlighted blue.
If your uploaded content is in fact SFW, you may simply unclick the ⚠️ icon to remove the content warning. Be aware that only SFW posts are allowed on the trending timeline here:
https://baraag.net/explore
If you wish for your SFW post to trend, turn off the ⚠️

@nprofile…h4nn none of the other rules are translated with AI. I originally had a friend who helped me with it but they disclosed to me that it is their second language and was edited machine translation. Furthermore, everyone who helped me did not wish to be credited.
I’m also not sure why you feel so strongly to bring this up when the rules are contextually about sharing art and not the core parts of this website, unless you just feel the need to broadly defend AI. In any case, I will credit you.

2026-06-13 13:34:24 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…h4nn this post is about visual art using undisclosed AI elements, where money is made from said content. It is not about informational text that I need to convey to users so that they understand the rules on baraag. Do you wish to be credited for helping me translating the Russian rules for baraag?

@nprofile…ff7f if an artist uses an AI generated image as an reference, they do not need to tag it as AI assisted.

2026-06-13 04:06:52 UTC

- reply

What I take issue with is the lack of transparency by not giving full disclosure in each and every AI assisted post, especially if the artist using it as part of their process is making money from it.
How one spends their money is not my business and I don’t care if people want to pay for AI assisted art or even fully AI generated content. But they deserve to know that is what they’re paying for. Anything less is scummy, if not outright scammy, and I refuse to let baraag be a platform for that

2026-06-13 04:06:51 UTC

While baraag bans users which dedicate themselves to posting AI generated content, we allow artists to share AI assisted works where it is still fundamentally their drawing. For example, they use AI to add colors, to animate the characters, or to add background elements to create a scene.
And although I personally do not care for AI assisted works, it is tolerated so long as the artist is being honest about it in their posts by tagging it with #AI to disclose what it was AI had assisted with.

While I understand applying an instance wide ban is unfair to users on those instances that are legal adults and that want to interact with baraag artists, they need to make a choice.
Be on a server that strictly enforces no interaction with children and allows adult content. Or be on a SFW server that allows children and no interaction with baraag.
They cannot have it both ways.

2026-06-02 17:00:41 UTC

I need to address some concerns about notifications some users are seeing about baraag.net blocking specific instances, thereby causing them to lose followers from said instances.
For a long time, I have strived to ban individual users from other instances found to be underage. But there has been a worrying increase in users identifying themselves as minors from the instances that were blocked, and I cannot risk allowing children to interact with us as an adult-only community.

2026-06-01 20:39:12 UTC

- reply

@nprofile…j7ge you are advocating for real life sexual contact with minors. This is outside the fictional context that baraag allows. If you want less censorship for “youth liberation” advocacy, please move to this instance: https://pedi-artists.club/

@nprofile…ggyh baraag has always been a place for complete freedom in expression with art, and unfortunately that means sharing a space with people that have irreconcilable beliefs, even if it is legally protected by the First Amendment. From nazi symbology to MAP flag colors, staying true to being a place for uncensored art means such fiction is hosted as a consequence.
Ultimately I respect your decision to delete your baraag account and wish you all the best elsewhere. I would consider aethy.com

@nprofile…4du2 when you pump out AI to chase the numbers of followers and likes, does it fill that void, that nothing you feel?
Are people liking the AI generated content because they like your thoughts and opinions surrounding your characters, or because it just looks aesthetically pleasing in the most superficial way? Are they really your characters when they all look the same, trained on data far removed from your human input?

2025-05-29 16:03:47 UTC

@nprofile…4du2 art is the culmination of human emotions, suffering being one of them. Taking breaks is also perfectly valid. but silly ideas can be entertained as low effort doodles too. Also understand that I am not threatening moderation against you. Call out posts in themselves are not against the rules here on baraag. I just ask that you consider retracting this post.

2025-03-13 18:34:07 UTC

@nprofile…nx25 I do not think you should be making a callout post like this based on “suspect”, especially considering youjomodoki has been posting their art to baraag since 2019, prior to the advent of AI slop. False allegations like this is damaging to an artist and I believe you should retract this post.

If you run your own instance server and federate with baraag.net in good faith, consider joining our activitypub relay:

@nprofile…h6f2 it is almost impossible to establish any direct communication with the admin of misskey.io
I am still frustrated that they ban baraag users for not censoring their art, with some of them even going out of their way to comply to lift the block.

@nprofile…xw9x the way federation works can be confusing, but the reason why those instances do not show your 2 latest posts is because they have not been discovered yet by their users. You can force automatic discovery of all new posts going forward by having someone on those respective instances follow your baraag account.

I also want to apologize for the sluggish performance of baraag lately. I am aware that browsing & loading pages have been less than ideal. Ever since the mass exodus from X started, baraag has been under heavy load as people traffic to alternatives like the fediverse or bluesky. I tried adding more resources but its barely able to keep up. I plan to migrate baraag in the next month to a more powerful server to get us back to speed. 7 years we survived. With your support let us survive another 7

I am sad to hear the news of aethy shutting down. Already I am receiving a lot of requests for accounts from aethy users on top of the backlog of applications I still have to get through.
I am also seeing concerns over the future of our own instance here. Please know that if baraag shuts down it is because I have exhausted every possible avenue to keep this community alive. I will not give up for as long as I can legally and financially afford to maintain baraag.
