"content": "š„ Tonight's movie was Kenji Mizoguchiās āUgetsuā (1953), following a recommendation from Hideo Kojima's Closet Picks. It's both a fable and a ghost story and a masterclass in cinematography in beautiful black and white and slow camera movements. The acting is superb and theatrical. The sound design (like cannons and gunfire at the beginning for a sense of urgency, threat and immediate danger) and the music really helps creating that eerie atmosphere in certain other scenes. Well worth a watch.\n\nUgetsu, also known as Ugetsu Monogatari is available on Youtube\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNPfl1dcTkI or Archive.org\nhttps://archive.org/details/Ugetsu or on Bluray at Criterion.\n\nInteresting essay by Phillip Lopate for Criterion\nhttps://www.criterion.com/current/posts/401-ugetsu-from-the-other-shore\n\n#movies #CineMastodon #Japanese #letterboxd\n\nhttps://mstdn.games/system/media_attachments/files/114/043/941/311/237/785/original/71ee02e7a907f84c.jpg",
