Just when I thought I knew all the cool stuff about Winold Reiss, I learn about M.A.C. (Modern Art Collector), his 11-issue magazine about commercial art from 1915–1918. In the opening number, two years after he emigrated to New York from Munich, he praises the standard set in Germany (Sachplakat) and Austria (Secession) and calls on Americans to create their own modern design. There is also this good advice:
