I guess saying, "Sure," without really thinking about it, when my housemate in Boston asked if I wanted to come with to San Francisco, where she would be going to school. I'd been to San Francisco once, when I was 11, and hated the place (but I hated everything when I was 11); other than that I knew nothing about the city. But I'm still here 30 years later.
