"content": "This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Smilodon\nIn the 1830s, Peter Wilhelm Lund and his assistants collected fossils in caves near Lagoa Santa, Minas Gerais, Brazil.\nIn 1839, he recognized some as hyena fossils and named them Hyaena neogaea.\nIn 1842, he revised this classification, while transitional to hyenas, they were distinct. He called this new species Smilodon.\nIn 1846 the first distinct large canine teeth were found, and an almost complete skeleton had be compiled from different individuals.\n\nhttps://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/116/421/871/451/029/384/original/da4467d74b20a484.jpg\nhttps://cdn.masto.host/sauropodswin/media_attachments/files/116/421/874/608/532/666/original/cd8bf1cdcf9f8fbe.png",
