Humpbacks sing their fanciest songs at the bottom of a dive. Researchers from Syracuse University stuck tablet-sized suction-cup tags on 16 males off Maui, recording sound and 3D movement together, which mapped an entire song onto a full dive for the first time. The most varied themes come at the deepest point. Not an easy feat, going up and coming down, juggling pressure and buoyancy and a finite amount of air, yet one whale sang for 16 hours straight.
