The session focused on the nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyd968gmewwp6kyqpq9ly5nycz3gdcehlrtkhp6g75vlg65209ytzzansyhsqdpnzmcpyqq3fu0r (nprofile…fu0r) proposal for the EU KIDS Act to explore the limits of measures based on exclusion or invasion of privacy, and to analyse the underlying structures and business models that expose all users to harm and vulnerability.
Wojciech Wiewiorowski stressed that protecting children online must be a priority, but that the way we do it matters.
Children are not only people to be protected, they are also holders of rights, including the right to express themselves, to access information, to have their privacy and personal data respected. But mostly, kids need to prepared for what comes next.
Any interference with their rights must be necessary and proportionate under the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
“Protection should not mean exclusion. Protection is about managing risks, not banning participation.” stressed the Supervisor.
