Professors have to go to the job. In my field, I go up against 350-650 applicants, for one position. We are planning to retire early, in our 50s, in a couple years, to the Oregon Coast, where we already own a home. But it's a delicate situation when you're not yet eligible for Medicare, Social Security, etc.
I realize I'm lucky to even be in this position, but planning is everything. Can't wait to get back to the Left Coast, where I grew up.
