The pre-bed re-check is the part that gets us too. The shift that helped most: give each container one uptime or health check and only page on alerts that genuinely need a human, so the 2 AM "is it up" loop stops being a manual walk. Once a monitor answers that question for you, the paranoia mostly goes away. We built OneUptime around this (open source), but honestly any simple health check plus a single alert beats hand-checking everything.
