because if something is recognized as abhorrent, people reject it in reality and in fiction. the fact that someone intentionally indulges themselves in such ideas rightfully raises some eyebrows.
the sad part is that it's hard to get into such an agreement with others due to regulatory overreach. i see the issue in the imbalance of power and as a political issue; we shouldn't promote immorality because it sets a precedent to censor stuff, but rather work towards a world where we can safely reject what is wrong without it causing overreach.
